BANGKOK — Whether fond of bourbon, scotch or single malt, head out to several Bangkok venues on the third Saturday of May, which is recognized as World Whiskey Day.
Hit these bars below on May 19 for a glass or three:
Lucky Fish: Japanese whiskies will be the hot items when this Izakaya-style cafe and bar hosts Japanese Whisky Tasting featuring three Japanese brands: Hibiki, Yamazaki and Hakushu. The flight is 950 baht. The event runs from 7pm to 8:30pm.
Beer Belly BKK: This Thonglor beer bar will offer more than taps of craft beer. Bite into pork ribs to accompany a choice of three specials – either a Boilermaker (glass of beer with a whiskey shot); a pickleback shot and beer; or bourbon on the rocks and beer. The price is 850 baht per person. Beer, Bourbon, BBQ starts at 5pm.
Bar Savoy: This bar-restaurant-karaoke hotspot inside 72 Courtyard community mall will host Malt Masters with a flight of four types of single malt scotch whiskey served for 1,200 baht per person. The event starts at 6pm.
Evil Man Blues: A jazz cocktail bar will ready a Whisky Pairing night of four courses of whiskey paired with sweets and snacks. The price is 1,800 baht per person and starts at 8:30pm.
The 88 Surawong: At this American-style newcomer to Surawong Road, mixologist Somkanay “Tong” Singha will lead a Whiskey 101 panel discussion focusing on different aspects of whiskey and bourbon. A special whiskey flight will be available at the venue. Entry is 550 baht. Things get underway at 5pm.
Whisgars: The whiskey and cigar lounge on Soi Sukhumvit 23 will offer its signature whiskey-based cocktails, whiskey flights and a whiskey and cigar pairing. The event starts at 2pm.
Quaint Bangkok: Pair an Asian fusion dish with fine whiskey at this vintage Ekkamai bar and restaurant’s whiskey pairing night. Tickets are 1,600 baht and reservations are recommended. The event runs 7pm to 10pm.
Or don’t go out at all. Online booze seller Wishbeer is offering whiskey delivery nationwide, with whiskies starting at 225 baht. They company recommends whiskey drinkers in Bangkok order two to four days in advance, while those upcountry should place their orders three to eight days in advance.
