Wife collapses in tears after finding husband killed in van crash

TAK — A woman collapsed in tears after discovering that her husband was the man killed in a van crash while riding his bicycle home from work to have dinner with his family in Mae Sot district on Tuesday night.

At 20:00 on 28 October 2026, Pol Col Rang Dao Dueng, chief of Mae Sot Police Station, was notified of a fatal collision involving a passenger van and a bicycle near a U-turn on Chaloem Thep Road in Mae Sot district, Tak province.

He went to the scene with rescue workers from Mae Pa Subdistrict Administrative Organisation.

The accident occurred on a secondary road in Mae Sot, where traffic is heavy throughout the day and night. Police found a white passenger van stopped in the middle of the road, with a large hole in its shattered front windshield.

The driver, identified as Wichian, 39, was inside the vehicle and appeared visibly shaken as he waited to give his statement to police.

Nearby, a black bicycle had been smashed into two pieces by the impact and lay in ruins beside the road. A short distance away, the body of Mong Aye, a 44-year-old Myanmar national, was found lying in a pool of blood. He had suffered severe head injuries and broken limbs.

A crowd gathered at the scene, including the victim’s wife, Mo, 42, who had come to see what had happened. She did not initially realise that the man lying on the road was her husband.

When rescue workers lifted the cloth covering the body, she recognised him and collapsed to her knees, sobbing uncontrollably. Rescue workers rushed to comfort and assist her.

Preliminary investigations found that Mong Aye had just finished his night shift and was cycling home to eat dinner with his wife and nine-year-old son, who were waiting for him at their nearby home.

As he rode across the road towards the U-turn, he apparently failed to notice an approaching vehicle. The passenger van struck him with such force that he died at the scene.

Police are investigating the circumstances of the collision.
