A video showing a confrontation between a Thai passenger and a group of foreign passengers on Bangkok’s BTS Skytrain has drawn widespread attention online, with the original post receiving about 160,000 views on TikTok and a repost on X surpassing 2 million views as of Friday.
The video was originally posted by TikTok account @1234aaawry and later shared by X user @oohs00. It shows an argument over the group’s noise level and route, with both sides exchanging insults.
The group speaks mainly in English and may be Italian, although their nationality, identities and ages could not be independently verified. In the video, one young woman says the group is made up of students and is trying to find its way.
“We are a group of students… We don’t know where to go.”
The person recording repeatedly tells the group to lower its voices.
“Just say like normal things, OK? Not ‘ahhh’, not scream, OK? In Thailand we don’t scream”
An unseen passenger later says, “Sorry for bringing money to your country,” before the person recording says the group has “no manners”.
Another passenger tells the woman to “shut the f**k up”, and she responds with similar language. When asked where they are from, one male passenger appears to answer, “Your mom.” The exchange continues with insults from both sides.
The woman filming later tells the group “This line is not good for travel. You have to go to another line, the Sukhumvit line. This one just for living.” BTS has no published rule restricting tourists to particular lines.
An older woman travelling with the group objects to the recording:
“You can’t film them,They’re under 18.”
The person filming replies that she should call the police. The video ends with further insults from the Thai woman and the group.
The woman appearing to lead the group then says, “I’m going to call the police for you, ok?” The exchange continues, with the woman asking what the group’s problem is before telling one passenger to “go to hospital” and “get your father too.”
In a follow-up statement posted after the video gained attention, the original uploader said the dispute began before the recording started.
She said she was travelling home at 01:00 on the BTS Silom Line, shortly before Sala Daeng station, when she heard loud shouting from outside the carriage. She said the noise remained audible through her headphones.
According to the uploader, a large group of young foreign passengers boarded at the next stop and continued shouting, playing and making loud noise inside the carriage. She said she eventually asked them: “Could you please be quieter?”
The uploader said a woman she believed to be a teacher or chaperone told her: “Please be patient. They are children. You can’t expect children to be quiet.”
She said another young woman later apologised and explained that the group was trying to find its route. The uploader said she replied that she was not angry but wanted the group to lower its voices.
The uploader further alleged that some members of the group insulted her, told her to go to hospital and kicked a glass divider after getting off the train. Those events are not fully shown in the circulating video and could not be independently verified.
She denied that the post was intended to target people of any nationality, saying it concerned the behaviour of one group and the adults responsible for supervising them.
The original video’s caption asked: “What nationality are they? Is it time for Thailand to stop giving free visas?”
Online commenters largely criticised the foreign group, particularly a male passenger who used profanity and gave the middle finger to the woman recording.
“Wherever you go, you should bring manners with you,” one X user wrote.
Another commenter said that BTS passengers are allowed to talk but should avoid speaking loudly enough to disturb other commuters.
BTS passenger guidance states that passengers should not “make loud noises, cause a disturbance or obstruct other passengers.”
