BANGKOK — The Land of Smiles will grin wider with a stand-up comedy fest packed with international comedians later this month.
The International Comedy Festival will bring Western-style stand-up comedy for three nights in four Thai cities.
The opening gala will be held March 23 at The Westin Grande Sukhumvit with six comedians: Kelly Taylor, Dana Alexander, Justin Rivera and Brian Aylward from Canada, Martin Mor from Northern Ireland and Dan LaMorte from the United States.
On the same night, the stage of The Comedy Club Bangkok will be occupied by three Indian superstars: Azeem Bantawall, Sunanda Sachatraku and Sorbah Pant.
The Comedy Club Bangkok will host the next two nights, with the same trio from the subcontinent being joined by New Zealander Andre King, Canadian Lars Callieou and Thai-British funnyman Chris Wegoda.
Those in need of a laugh can catch the shows 8pm on March 24 and 25. On Friday, March 24, Wegoda will perform at The Tavern By The Sea in Pattaya while Canadian comedian Kelly Taylor will perform at The Red Piano in Hua Hin. Irish talent Aidan Killian will spread some lols Saturday at The Underwood Art Factory in Phuket.
Ticket prices for Bangkok shows are 1,000 baht or 750 baht if purchased in advance. Shows outside the capital city are 800 baht or 600 baht in advance. All can be bought online.
The Magners International Comedy Festival began in Singapore in 2014 before expanding to other Asian countries. This year, the festival will be held in Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.
The Comedy Club Bangkok is located above The Royal Oak Pub in Soi Sukhumvit 33/1, a few minutes walk from exit No. 5 of BTS Phrom Phong.
