BANGKOK — 26 August 2026, People’s Party leader Natthaphong Ruengpanyawut has accused the Department of Special Investigation (DSI) of potentially trying to silence people who revealed documents linked to alleged collusion in the 2024 Senate election.
Natthaphong was responding to the DSI’s announcement that it may take legal action against those who disclosed investigation documents. He said the public had a right to know the truth if the information was genuine, regardless of how it was obtained.
He questioned whether the government could be using claims of confidentiality and legal authority to silence people who had exposed wrongdoing. If the government was ready to disclose the facts itself, he said, it should not make comments that could discourage people from speaking out.
The Election Commission is expected to clarify its decision in the case on 28 August. Natthaphong said the law requires the EC to refer the matter to the Supreme Court if there is credible evidence, rather than deciding guilt itself.
He also raised concerns that only some senators could be held accountable while alleged links to political parties or ministers were left unexplored.
Natthaphong urged the EC to act according to the law, warning that commissioners themselves could face legal action if they abused their authority.
