Thai woman, French boyfriend injured in knife struggle in Phuket

PHUKET — 28 August 2026, A Thai woman and her French boyfriend became involved in a knife struggle following an argument at a monthly rental room in Patong early Friday morning, leaving the French man with a hand injury.

At around 07:00, Pol. Lt. Thanat Piyanut Khunthong, deputy investigation officer at Patong Police Station, received a report of a fight and assault involving a Thai woman and her foreign boyfriend at a monthly rental property at 63/1 Nanai Road, near Kasemsap Village in Patong, Kathu district, Phuket.

Patong Police Station chief Pol. Col. Kornkrit Khankrua was informed and later went to inspect the scene.

Officers found 23-year-old Montakarn, from Si Sa Ket province, who identified herself as the girlfriend of the injured man.

Montakarn told police that she had been in a relationship with 28-year-old Konate, a French national, for around five months.

According to the initial investigation, the couple had an argument at around 05:00.

During the dispute, Montakarn was reportedly holding a knife. Konate attempted to take the knife away and grabbed the blade, causing a cut to the palm of his right hand.

After the incident, Konate reportedly lay down and rested for some time. However, when the bleeding did not stop, he walked to a nearby 7-Eleven convenience store.

Rescue workers were called to assist and took him to Patong Hospital for treatment.

Investigators later went to the hospital to assess Moussa’s condition and question him about the incident.

Police said they would continue investigating the circumstances, collect evidence and proceed according to the law.
