FUKUOKA, Japan — 10 September 2026, Thailand’s men’s volleyball team fought hard but bowed out of the 2026 AVC Men’s Volleyball Continent Championship after losing 0-3 to Australia in the quarterfinals.
The tournament is being held in Fukuoka, Japan. Thailand, ranked 48th in the world and the Group C winners, faced Australia, ranked 42nd and runners-up from their group, in the last-eight clash.
Thailand reached the Asian Championship quarterfinals for the first time in 11 years, having last reached this stage in 2015. The team has never advanced to the semifinals of the tournament.
Thailand’s most recent meeting with Australia ended in a 3-1 victory for Thailand at the 2022 AVC Cup, then held in Nakhon Pathom, in the seventh-place playoff.
For Thursday’s quarterfinal, head coach Park Ki-won named Boonyarit Wongthorn, Napadech Phinitdee, Chaiwat Thungkam, Thanat Bamrungphakdee, Anuchit Phakdeekaew and Thoopdit Phraphut in the starting lineup, with Nakarin Inthanu as libero.
Thailand kept the match close throughout all three sets, with the teams trading points in a tightly contested battle.
Australia, however, held its nerve at the crucial moments to secure a 3-0 victory, winning 25-22, 26-24 and 25-19.
The result ended Thailand’s run in the tournament at the quarterfinal stage, while Australia advanced to the semifinals.
The semifinals are scheduled for 12 September 2026, with the first match set to begin at 13:30.
