Dog survives surgery after being shot by neighbour in Kamphaeng Phet

KAMPHAENG PHET — 26 August 2026, A municipal employee has been accused of shooting a neighbour’s dog after it entered a nearby property in Khlong Lan district, with CCTV footage reportedly capturing the incident.

The dog’s owner said her seven-month-old Thai-breed dog, Khai Nui, was shot at about 17:30 on Wednesday. She said the dog cried out in pain and was taken more than 30 kilometres to a veterinary clinic in Kamphaeng Phet town.

Veterinarians performed emergency surgery and removed a 9mm bullet lodged in the dog’s neck, she said. The dog is now recovering.

The owner said she later reviewed CCTV footage and identified a 50-year-old neighbour, who works for Khlong Lan Phatthana Subdistrict Municipality, as the suspected shooter. She filed a complaint with Khlong Lan Police Station on 27 August, submitting the CCTV footage and the bullet removed during surgery as evidence.

The suspect is seen walking towards the scene before a loud gunshot is heard, immediately followed by a dog whimpering.

She said the man initially denied involvement but later surrendered to police and admitted shooting the dog. According to the owner, he told officers that he had thrown away the firearm used in the incident. Police searched for the weapon but had not found it.

The suspect appears to place what is believed to be a firearm in his waistband before walking away from the scene of the shooting.

The owner said she felt unsafe because she lives with her two children while her husband works abroad. She questioned why the neighbour had not spoken to her if the dog had caused a problem, instead of resorting to violence.

Police said they were gathering evidence and preparing the case for prosecutors.
