DE Warns Public About Fake SEC Investment QR Code

DE warns the public about a fake QR Code falsely claiming to be endorsed by the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) for investment opportunities, urging people to beware of scammers seeking money and personal information.

The Ministry of Digital Economy and Society (DE), through the Anti-Fake News Center Thailand (AFNC), has released the latest results of its fake news monitoring and reporting efforts. The initiative is in line with the policy of Mr.Chaichanok Chidchob, Minister of Digital Economy and Society, to strengthen public awareness of technology-related crimes, fake news, and misinformation.

On 26 August 2026, AFNC monitored a total of 109,287 messages, of which 11,443 required verification. The largest number of leads came from Social Listening, accounting for 11,442 messages, followed by one message received through LINE Official. A total of 29 issues required verification, with results received from relevant agencies for nine cases.

Among the seven stories that attracted the greatest public attention, three were confirmed as true, two were identified as fake news, and two were identified as misleading information:

True News: How to recognize sudden fainting and identify important warning signs.

True News: Authorities are preparing to adjust water discharge from the Chao Phraya Dam and have warned people to monitor downstream water levels, which could rise by 1.5–2 meters.

Fake News: Department of Land Transport officials are offering driving licence services through the TikTok account dltsmart875.

True News: The Department of Rural Roads is expanding Highway SP.1006 from the Highway No. 3 intersection to Bang Phli Housing Estate, with completion expected in 2027.

Misleading Information: Regular consumption of holy basil can cause toxic substances to accumulate in the body over the long term.

Misleading Information: Thailand has cleared land, constructed roads and established defensive positions in violation of Cambodia’s territorial sovereignty.

Fake News: People interested in investing can scan a QR Code to contact an investment officer immediately, with the investment claimed to be guaranteed as safe by the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).

One of the notable fake stories claimed that people interested in investing could scan a QR Code to immediately contact an investment officer, with the investment guaranteed as safe by the SEC. The DE Ministry, in coordination with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), confirmed that the claim is fake. The QR Code and advertisement were created by scammers who unlawfully used the SEC’s name to make the investment offer appear credible.

The investment message claiming that the opportunity is “guaranteed as safe by the SEC” also unlawfully uses the SEC’s name and logo without authorization. This could mislead people into believing that the investment is associated with or endorsed by the SEC and could result in financial losses if they are deceived into investing.

Before making any investment decision, the public is advised to check whether the person soliciting the investment or the service provider is authorized by the SEC through SEC Check First, or contact the SEC Hotline at 1207, press 22.

The DE Ministry remains concerned about the spread of fake news and misinformation across online and social media platforms. A lack of awareness and the sharing of false information can lead people to believe misleading claims, cause misunderstanding, result in financial losses or theft of personal information, and potentially have wider impacts on society.

The public is therefore encouraged to trust and share useful information only from official sources and to carefully verify the facts and website links before believing or forwarding any information.

People who encounter suspicious information or possible fake news can report it or verify information through the Anti-Fake News Center Thailand via Hotline 1111 ext. 87, available 24 hours a day.
