BANGKOK — 18 June 2026, DOMUNDI, a Thai production company and talent agency, has announced its 2026 line-up under the theme “The Rise Continues”, launching a new project, Khemjira The Animation, an animated adaptation of the Boys’ Love (BL) series “Khemjira’s Rescue”, marking the first time the company has adapted one of its live-action series into an animated format.
“Khemjira’s Rescue” originated as a mystery-supernatural BL novel by the author writing under the pen name “Cali.” The story follows “Khemjira,” a young man born into a family bound by a dark curse: every male member is destined to die before reaching the age of 21. To protect her son from this grim fate, his mother gave him a traditionally Thai female name. As his 21st birthday approaches and the curse’s power begin to manifest, Khemjira must embark on a journey alongside his friends and “Pharan,” a young occult master (Phor Khru). Together, they must confront malevolent spirits and find a way to survive, all while the bond between Khemjira and Pharan gradually deepens into a profound relationship.
Before its expansion into animation, the live-action series enjoyed significant success both domestically and internationally. The series finale generated more than 17.2 million engagements on X, topping the trends at No. 1 in Thailand and worldwide and entering trending charts in more than 15 territories globally. The drama also ranked No. 1 in the Most High Popularity (Thailand) category on the streaming platform iQIYI and attracted more than 14 million live viewers across its 12-episode run on ONE31. Furthermore, its final episode set new peak rating records in several parts of Thailand, reflecting the strength of its fan base and the intellectual property’s potential to expand into other media formats.
The project will be developed in collaboration with The Monk Studios, a Thai animation and visual effects (VFX) studio that previously created the VFX for the live-action Khemjira’s Rescue series. The studio is also known internationally for its portfolio in animation production and VFX, including Ne Zha 2 (2025), Wish Dragon (2021), and Kung Fu Panda: The Paws of Destiny Season 1 (2018).
Additionally, the lead cast from the original series, “Keng” Harit Buayoi, “Namping” Napatsakorn Pingmuang, “Tle” Matimun Sreeboonrueang, and “FirstOne” Wannakorn Reungrat, will return to voice their characters in the animated version.
The launch of Khemjira Animation stands as another major milestone for DOMUNDI. It underscores the company’s efforts to broaden the scope of Thai BL content into new formats beyond traditional live-action series through the continued development of this intellectual property (IP), which has evolved from Cali’s novel into a series and now into an animation.
The project also reflects the growing recognition within Thailand’s entertainment industry of the potential of BL animation as a medium capable of reaching diverse age groups and unlocking greater opportunities in international markets. At the same time, collaborating with a Thai studio that possesses global experience marks another significant step forward for the Thai animation industry in creating original works. It clearly demonstrates that Thai BL content is transcending the boundaries of live-action series and expanding into a more diverse media universe.
