AICHI-NAGOYA, Japan — Thailand claimed its first gold medal at the 2026 Asian Games on 20 September after its mixed techball pair defeated Japan in the final.
Thailand reached the finals in all three techball events — mixed doubles, women’s doubles and men’s doubles.
In the mixed doubles final, defending world champions Suphawadi Wongkhamchan and Phakpong Dechjaroen faced Japan’s Yuina Sakamoto and Akinori Wase.
The Thai pair dominated the opening set, winning 12-4.
Japan fought back in the second set, but the Thai duo held firm to win 12-5 and secure the gold medal.
The victory gave Thailand its first gold medal of the Asian Games and the first medal of any colour for the Thai contingent at the Games.
