Japanese Tourist Robbed in Patong During New Year Festival

PHUKET — A Japanese tourist was robbed in Patong on the night of Jan 2 while visiting Phuket for the New Year holiday, police said.

The victim, identified as Sato Yuki, reported the incident to Patong Police Station at about 10:22 p.m. He told police that two men on a black motorcycle snatched his bag while he was walking on Thaweewong Road, opposite the CRARIN Hotel in Patong, Kathu district.

Sato, who was staying at a hotel in Phuket, said the stolen bag contained an iPhone 17 worth about 30,000 baht, an Insta360 camera worth about 6,000 baht and Bose earphones worth about 16,000 baht. The total value of the stolen items was about 52,000 baht.

The suspects fled the scene on the motorcycle after the theft.

Police said officers inspected the scene, reviewed CCTV footage in the area and took additional statements from the victim as part of efforts to identify and track down the suspects.

No arrests have been reported so far.
