
PHATTHALUNG — A Malaysian-registered sedan veered off the road and struck a 75-year-old man in Phatthalung province on Friday afternoon, killing him at the scene, police said.
The crash occurred at about 5:40 p.m. in Ban Ton Teen Ped village, Ban Na subdistrict, Srinakarin district, according to investigators from Srinakarin Police Station.
Police said the car, a Honda sedan with Malaysian license plates, was being driven by Ahmadnatmt Btnsazale, 36, who was traveling with his family. The vehicle lost control, swerved into the left lane and hit the victim, who was standing near his home along the roadside.
The victim, identified as Prapol Dam-am, 75, a local resident, was thrown into a roadside drainage ditch and died at the scene.
Dashcam footage from a vehicle traveling behind showed the sedan drifting out of its lane in a manner consistent with the driver possibly falling asleep before crashing, police said.
The driver was visibly shaken and in shock after the crash, authorities said.
Police are continuing their investigation and will proceed in accordance with legal procedures.
