Chao Phraya riverbank wall collapses in Ang Thong

ANG THONG — 1 July 2026, A stone embankment protecting the bank of the Chao Phraya River collapsed over a stretch of about 100 metres in Ang Thong province, prompting authorities to investigate the cause and prevent further damage.

The collapse occurred in Village Moo 6, Ban Hae subdistrict, Mueang district, where the riverbank rises about 40 metres above the Chao Phraya River. Officials said the damaged section appeared at risk of expanding.

As a precaution, floating platforms used by fishing tourism operators were moved away from the danger zone.

Annop Suwanchana, president of the Ban Hae Subdistrict Administrative Organisation, said local residents alerted him to the collapse. Upon inspection, he found the embankment was continuing to give way.

Local authorities coordinated the relocation of the floating platforms before notifying district and provincial officials to inspect the site, determine the cause of the collapse and implement measures to prevent further erosion.
