BANGKOK — 31 August 2026, Ukraine has urged Thailand to provide further humanitarian assistance, including power generators and medical equipment, as it prepares for another winter amid continued Russian attacks on its energy infrastructure.
Speaking at a briefing, Viktor Semenov, Ukraine’s Chargé d’Affaires in Thailand, thanked Thailand for its continued support.
Semenov said Thailand has provided humanitarian and energy-related assistance each year, stressing the need for continued international cooperation.
He said generators and other power equipment, along with medical machinery requested by Ukrainian hospitals, were among the areas where Thailand could provide further support.
According to Thailand’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Thailand has provided about 26 million baht in humanitarian aid to Ukraine through the Thai Red Cross Society, the Ukrainian Red Cross Society, the Polish Red Cross Society and the United Nations Children’s Fund.
Semenov said the assistance helped Ukrainians through one of their coldest winters in more than a decade. With Russian’s attacks on heating and energy infrastructure intensifying, he said further aid would be particularly important ahead of winter.
He also welcomed Thailand’s participation in international conferences on Ukraine’s recovery and urged Bangkok to join the “Bring Kids Back” initiative, which seeks the return of illegally deported Ukrainian children.
“Believe in Ukraine”
Semenov also delivered a message to the Thai public, urging people to “believe in Ukraine, freedom and independence.”
“We are protecting not only our territory. But we are protecting the principles and international law. We are protecting the UN Charter. For me, it’s obvious that it’s light and dark. And it’s very easy to choose your own message,” he said.
He said expressions of support for international law from Thai people he had met were an important source of encouragement for Ukraine.
Ukraine is also seeking greater Thai investment as it prepares for post-war reconstruction.
