FUKUOKA, Japan — 9 September 2026, Thailand’s men’s volleyball team maintained its impressive form at the 2026 AVC Men’s Volleyball Continent Championship, edging Chinese Taipei 3-2 to finish top of Group C and advance to the quarter-finals.
The match was the final Group C fixture at the tournament in Fukuoka, with both Thailand and Chinese Taipei having already secured places in the last eight after winning their opening two matches. The winner of the match would claim the group title.
Thailand, ranked No. 50 in the world, faced No. 53 Chinese Taipei under head coach Park Ki-won.
Park started Boonyarit Wongthon, Napadech Pinitdee, Chaiwat Thungkham, Thanat Bamrungphakdee, Anuchit Phakdeekaew and Thoopdit Phraphut, with Nakarin Inthanu playing as libero.
Thailand made a strong start, taking the opening set to move ahead 1-0.
Chinese Taipei responded strongly, however, using powerful attacks from the outside and back row to win the next two sets and take a 2-1 lead.
Thailand refused to give up in the fourth set. Park made tactical adjustments as his side fought back to level the match at 2-2 and force a deciding fifth set.
Thailand then regained its confidence and pulled clear in the final set, securing a 3-2 victory with scores of 25-23, 22-25, 23-25, 25-22 and 15-10.
The result gave Thailand three straight wins and the Group C title, sending the team through to the quarter-finals.
Thailand will face Australia, who finished second in Group A, in the last eight.
