NAGOYA, Japan — 28 September 2026, Thai-Australian tennis player Maximus Pharapol Jones, the No. 15 seed and world No. 480, cruised into the men’s singles round of 16 at the 20th Asian Games.
Jones defeated Mongolia’s Salvador Urnukh 2–0 in the second round, winning both sets 6–0, 6–0.
He will face the winner of the match between Alexander Shevchenko of Kazakhstan, the No. 2 seed and world No. 109, and Abhishek Bastola of Nepal in the last 16.
In mixed doubles, Thailand’s Pruchya Isaro and Peangtarn Plipuech were narrowly beaten by South Korea’s Shin San-hui and Lee Eun-hye, losing 1–2.
The Thai pair won the opening set 6–4 but dropped the second 1–6 before losing the deciding super tie-break 10–12, ending their campaign in the round of 32.
In women’s singles, Thailand’s Phatcharin Cheepchandech, known as Eve, was eliminated by Philippines’ Alexandra Eala, the world No. 18 and top seed.
Eala won 2–0, taking the match 6–1, 6–0, ending Phatcharin’s Asian Games campaign at this stage.
