Heavy rain in Chiang Mai has prompted safety warnings and temporary waterfall closures at Doi Inthanon and Doi Suthep-Pui national parks.
Rainfall of 200 millimetres was recorded near the summit of Doi Inthanon in Chom Thong district, causing unusually strong flows at Mae Ya and Pha Dok Siew waterfalls. Doi Inthanon National Park has warned visitors to take care and temporarily avoid water-based tourism activities.
Meanwhile, Doi Suthep-Pui National Park has temporarily closed Mok Fa Waterfall in Mae Taeng district and Huay Tung Tao Waterfall in Mae Rim district after heavy rain upstream sent fast-flowing, reddish-brown water into the sites.
The closures will remain in place until conditions return to normal. Authorities urged visitors to follow officials’ instructions, warning that continued rain could trigger sudden flash flooding.
