Thailand’s U17 women’s volleyball team, after fighting until the final match to secure a place in the last 16, produced a strong performance to beat Poland in a thrilling four-set contest and advance to the quarter-finals of the world championship.
The 2026 FIVB Volleyball Girls’ U17 World Championship is being held in Santiago, Chile. In the last-16 round on 13 August, Thailand, who finished fourth in Group A, faced Poland, the winners of Group C.
Thailand made an excellent start, taking a 2-0 lead after winning the opening two sets 25-19 and 25-21. Poland, however, adjusted their tactics effectively and fought back to win the third set 25-10, cutting Thailand’s lead to 2-1.
The fourth set was a closely fought affair, with the teams trading points and the lead throughout. The score was level at 20-20 before Thailand edged ahead to claim a thrilling 25-23 victory.
Thailand’s U17 women therefore defeated Poland 3-1 (25-19, 25-21, 10-25, 25-23) to book their place in the quarter-finals, where they will face Taiwan.
Poland, meanwhile, will drop into the 9th-16th classification round, where they will meet Venezuela.
