PHNOM PENH — 27 September 2026, More than 2,900 families have been forced to evacuate their homes as severe flooding affects 25,561 families across 10 provinces in Cambodia, according to a disaster management official.
Soth Kim Kolmony, spokesperson for the National Committee for Disaster Management (NCDM), said rising floodwaters have inundated 24,505 homes and destroyed or damaged 12,551 hectares of rice fields.
Kolmony said the flooding is being driven mainly by heavy rainfall in local areas rather than an overflow of the Mekong River.
“Mekong River levels at most of the key monitoring stations remain below the alert level and are trending downwards,” he said.
However, the situation could continue for several more days, with weather forecasts predicting further rainfall through 30 September.
The Ministry of Water Resources and Meteorology said Cambodia is experiencing widespread rain, thunderstorms and strong winds caused by peripheral weather systems.
Cambodia regularly experiences seasonal flash floods between July and October. NCDM data showed that flooding claimed 19 lives nationwide last year.
