LAMPHUN — 7 September 2026, The Lamphun Provincial Administrative Organization (PAO) will launch a free electric bus service on 8 September, allowing residents to travel around the city without fares for six months.
The Lamphun EV Bus service will be free from 8 September 2026 through 8 March 2027. The service is intended to provide a convenient alternative for people travelling to work, school, markets, temples and other destinations around Lamphun.
Passengers will also be able to track buses in real time through the TSB Go Plus application, available on both iOS and Android. The app will provide information on routes, bus stops, operating times and the current locations of buses. The information is scheduled to become available on 8 September.
The buses will operate on both clockwise and counterclockwise routes, connecting key locations in Lamphun, including Wat Phra That Hariphunchai, Chak Kham Khanathon School, Jampha Shopping Mall and the Northern Region Industrial Estate, among other destinations.
During the initial phase, buses will operate from 06:00 to 18:00, with the first and last services starting from Lamphun PAO Central Stadium. Buses are scheduled to run approximately once every hour.
The PAO said the service is initially being introduced as a trial to assess actual passenger demand and make adjustments based on how residents use the system. Service frequency and routes could be expanded in the future.
The electric buses are equipped with several passenger facilities, including wheelchair-accessible areas and easier boarding and alighting. Other features include air conditioning, Wi-Fi, audio announcements at each stop and GPS-based real-time vehicle tracking through TSB Go Plus.
Each bus has 22 seats, excluding standing passengers.
The Lamphun PAO is encouraging residents to try the service as an alternative to private cars, saying the project could help reduce travel expenses while making transportation more convenient and reducing pollution.
Residents can check the latest route and vehicle information through the TSB Go Plus application before leaving home to plan their journeys.
