AIS, PCD and TGO Pioneer Thailand’s First E-Waste Calculator Platform, Setting a National Standard

AIS has joined forces with the Pollution Control Department (PCD) and the Thailand Greenhouse Gas Management Organization (Public Organization), or TGO, to launch the E-Waste Calculator Platform, Thailand’s first platform to apply internationally aligned calculation principles to electronic waste management through a unified nationwide measurement standard. The platform enables organizations to systematically collect data, monitor progresses and assess environmental impacts. using a consistent measurement framework. By integrating data from individual organizations, it provides a comprehensive national picture of e-waste management, strengthens sustainability reporting, and supports evidence-based policymaking.

This landmark collaboration marks a significant step toward establishing a unified national framework for measuring e-waste management and positions Thailand to become a regional model for sustainable e-waste management across ASEAN.

The E-Waste Calculator Platform helps organizations turn e-waste collection data into measurable environmental outcomes. Organizations can record the types and quantities of e-waste they collect through https://sustainability.ais.co.th/th/sustainability-projects/e-waste-calculator/overview. The system calculates waste quantities and estimates greenhouse gas emission reductions according to established criteria, generating reports that can be downloaded in PDF and Excel formats. These reports help organizations monitor performance, plan e-waste management activities, and prepare sustainability reports. The platform also consolidates data from multiple organizations to support nationwide e-waste analysis and planning.

Thailand currently generates approximately 700,000 tons of electronic waste annually, with less than 1% entering proper treatment processes. Meanwhile, AIS’s “Thais Say No to E-Waste” initiative has built a network of more than 280 partner organizations and over 3,200 collection points nationwide, Since 2019, collecting a cumulative total of 1,301,912 items, weighing 288,346.74 kilograms, helping reduce greenhouse gas emissions by an estimated 130,700 kilograms of carbon equivalent (kgCO₂e).Effective and, sustainable e-waste management requires cooperation across all sectors, supported by reliable and, verifiable data. This allows waste quantities to be tracked from their sources and collection through treatment to the resulting environmental outcomes.

The E-Waste Calculator Platform marks another significant milestone in integrating these collective efforts. It combines AIS’s technological capabilities and extensive partner network, PCD’s expertise in policy development and regulatory advancement, and TGO’s standards and expertise in greenhouse gas emissions calculation. Together, these complementary strengths establish a unified, data-driven framework for systematic measurement, enabling organizations to translate individual e-waste management data into meaningful national insights. This collaboration strengthens evidence-based policymaking, supports long-term sustainability goals, and lays the foundation for advancing Thailand’s e-waste management standards toward a potential regional model for ASEAN.

Mr.Prasert Sirinapaporn Deputy Permanent Secretary, said: “The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment places great importance on strengthening Thailand’s e-waste management system, from take-back, collection and sorting to proper recycling or disposal. We are advancing the draft Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Management Act based on the principle of Extended Producer Responsibility, while also encouraging and supporting voluntary private-sector cooperation in e-waste management.

“The ‘Thais Say No to E-Waste’ initiative is an important example of how the public and private sectors can integrate their data and capabilities. By extending cooperation to local administrative organizations and the public, we can transform policy into actions at the community level and encourage public participation. This will help prepare Thailand for future legislation, promote resource recovery in line with circular economy principles, and reduce pollution and greenhouse gas emissions.”

Ms. Kantima Lerlertyuttitham, Deputy Chief Executive Officer and Chief Corporate Officer at AIS, said: “At AIS, we believe that building a sustainable world requires cooperation across all sectors. Through our ‘Thoughtful Mission,’ we have continued to advance the ‘Thais Say No to E-Waste’ initiative with our partner network to promote proper sorting and management of electronic waste. Sustainable e-waste management goes beyond collection. It requires reliable data and clear measurement standards to demonstrate tangible environmental outcomes.

“AIS is therefore contributing its technological capabilities to support the development of the E-Waste Calculator Platform. The platform helps organizations systematically record and assess their e-waste management activities, use the data to support sustainability efforts, and better understand their results. We believe technology delivers real value when it turns the intention to protect the environment into action that produces meaningful results.”

Dr. Surin Worakijthamrong, Director General of the Pollution Control Department, said: “A major challenge in e-waste management is the limited capacity to collect and channel end-of-life products into proper treatment systems. As a result, some are discarded with general waste or dismantled improperly, creating risks of hazardous substances contaminating the environment and affecting public health.

“PCD has therefore works with AIS and TGO to establish a project promoting the management of end-of-life mobile phones and accessories. By combining pollution management expertise with our partners’ technology and networks, We aim to establish a systematic take-back mechanism that ensures these products are properly collected and directed toward recycling or environmentally sound disposal processes in accordance with established technical and environmental standards. “We will also support local administrative organizations in expanding collection points and improving public understanding of proper sorting and return practices. Connecting data through the E-Waste Calculator Platform will enable PCD to track the quantities of end-of-life products collected and treated, improve operational planning and extend implementation across local areas. This will help increase collection efficiency and reduce improper e-waste management.”

Mr. Narkorn Takkavirapat, Executive Director of the Thailand Greenhouse Gas Management Organization (Public Organization), said: “Managing electronic waste not only helps reduce waste and its environmental impact, but also creates opportunities to recover materials and reduce greenhouse gas emissions associated with producing new materials. To demonstrate these benefits, however, clear and reliable calculation criteria are essential.

“TGO has therefore worked with AIS to develop Thailand’s first approach for calculating greenhouse gas reductions from sorting mobile phone e-waste for recycling under the Low Emission Support Scheme (LESS). This will ensure that results are assessed using clear, transparent, verifiable and consistent criteria. Looking ahead, TGO also aims to support the development of a methodology for T-VER carbon credit projects, which could provide further incentives for all sectors to manage e-waste more effectively.

AIS invites organizations, government agencies, and partners across all sectors to adopt the E-Waste Calculator Platform to strengthen systematic e-waste management, increase the volume of electronic waste entering proper recycling and treatment processes, and advance a more effective, transparent, and measurable national e-waste management system. Beyond national impact, this initiative also lays the foundation for positioning Thailand as an ASEAN knowledge hub and regional model for sustainable e-waste management, fostering knowledge sharing, collaboration, and the adoption of standardized measurement practices across the region.
