BANGKOK — Love is a wonderful thing and love is a crime that can make victims of anyone – but mostly women.
It’s the repetitive rape scenes in soap operas, the female protagonists who must suffer and tolerate mistreatment, and the social norm of women sublimating their pain for a man’s love. Objects to be controlled.
These are the themes that brought four young women talents together to create visual works to mirror social structures, pain and oppression from different perspectives.
Planned for May, the show by Chomphupak Poonpol, Napatsakorn Nikornsaen, Nuttinan Phukama and Athapha Rattanaphongthara are seeking financial support to realize their vision.
Though the exhibition is supported by a royal arts foundation, the artists say more money is needed to cover the expenses. Donations of a few hundred baht will get posters or T-shirts designed by the artists in return. Information about how to help can be found on the venue’s Facebook page.
The exhibition will launch at 6pm on April 22 and run through May 22 at Tentacles gallery in Soi Narathiwas 22, which is a short walk from BRT Thanon Chan.
