BANGKOK — Thailand is hosting the 29th ASEAN Labour Ministers’ Meeting and related meetings in Bangkok from 23–28 August, with regional labour officials focusing on skills development and preparing workers for a changing job market.
The meeting is being held under the theme “Advancing ASEAN Human Capital: Skill Certification towards Global Recognition,” highlighting efforts to ensure workers’ skills and qualifications gain wider international recognition.
The Cabinet on 25 August approved Thailand’s participation in an international network for cooperation on social justice under the International Labour Organization (ILO), with the Ministry of Labour serving as the country’s lead agency.
Labour Minister is scheduled to sign a document confirming Thailand’s participation in the network on 26 August.
The government said the initiative will help workers apply certified skills across a wider labour market while allowing businesses to find workers with qualifications that better match their needs.
It will also give Thailand opportunities to exchange knowledge and labour policies with international partners and contribute to discussions on the future of work, including digital technology, automation, the green economy and new forms of employment.
Thailand said closer cooperation at the ASEAN and international levels will help prepare workers for evolving labour markets while promoting appropriate labour rights and social protections.
