KHAMPHAENG PHET — 25 August 2026, Police have charged and sought the detention of four Thai men accused of abducting a Chinese woman in Bangkok, tying her hands, covering her head and allegedly transporting her towards the Mae Sot border area, despite all four suspects denying the allegations.
The case came to light on 25 August 2026 after a black sedan reportedly drove through a police checkpoint in Mueang district, Kamphaeng Phet.
While fleeing, the car slowed down and its rear door was opened. The Chinese woman, whose hands were allegedly tied, was pushed from the vehicle. Despite being injured, she managed to get up and run to nearby residents for help.
Police from Mueang Kamphaeng Phet Police Station subsequently arrested four Thai men: Somkiat, 41; Suchart, 41; Kittiporn, 24; and Kittisak, 22. All four are from Mae Sot and Phop Phra districts in Tak province.
Police have charged the four with jointly detaining and confining another person and jointly causing bodily harm, based on the evidence gathered so far.
Additional charges are being considered as investigators continue collecting evidence. Police were due to seek court detention for all four suspects on 25 August, although they have all denied the allegations.
Chinese woman says she was deceived
During questioning, the Chinese woman told investigators that she had planned to travel to Singapore but intended to visit Thailand first.
She said she met a woman during her flight who told her that she had a Chinese friend living in Thailand. The woman reportedly persuaded her to meet the friend after she arrived.
The victim stayed at a hotel in Bangkok before a sedan came to pick her up.
She said she got into the vehicle, which soon stopped to pick up three more men not far from the hotel.
It was then that she realised she had allegedly been deceived.
The woman told investigators that she tried to resist and get out of the car, but the men restrained her by tying her hands. She said one of them struck her in the mouth with an elbow, causing injuries, before they covered her head with a cloth.
The vehicle eventually reached Kamphaeng Phet, where she saw a police checkpoint.
Believing it was her only chance to escape, she called for help. However, the driver allegedly sped away through the checkpoint.
During the escape, she said she was pulled from the vehicle and thrown onto the road before members of the public came to her aid.
Police suspect cross-border trafficking link
Investigators suspect the four men may have been hired to transport the Chinese woman towards the border in Mae Sot district, Tak, where she could potentially have been forced to work illegally.
Police are continuing to investigate who may have arranged the alleged abduction and whether other people were involved.
The four suspects remain in police custody pending further legal proceedings.
