BANGKOK — 26 August 2026, Tourist police have arrested a 29-year-old government driver accused of impersonating a police officer by using photo-editing software and AI technology to create images showing himself apparently carrying out police duties.
On Aug. 26, Tourist Police Bureau chief Pol. Lt. Gen. Saksira Phueak-am and deputy chief Pol. Maj. Gen. Phongsayam Meekhanthong ordered investigators led by Pol. Col. Man Rotthong, along with other officers, to investigate the case at the Chaeng Watthana Government Complex in Bangkok.
The investigation followed a complaint from an official at the complex that a government driver had allegedly been dressing like an investigative police officer, claiming to hold the rank of police lance corporal with the Tourist Police Bureau.
Officers visited the location and examined the man’s social media accounts. They identified the suspect as 29-year-old Yuenyong, who allegedly posted images of himself online portraying himself as a police officer.
Investigators said he used photo-editing programs and AI technology to alter images, making it appear that he was performing police duties, including arresting suspects and posing alongside police arrest teams.
Further checks found that Yuenyong was indeed employed as a driver for a government agency at the Chaeng Watthana Government Complex.
Police monitored his activities, collected evidence from his social media accounts and checked his criminal record.
Investigators found that he had been linked to several cases, including drug use and possession, joint fraud and transporting undocumented migrant workers. Police said he had been released on bail in those cases but subsequently fled.
He was also wanted under an arrest warrant issued by the Maha Sarakham Provincial Court, No. 376/2024, dated June 27, 2024, on a charge related to allegedly entering false information into a computer system.
Investigators later detained Yuenyong while he was lying inside a van parked on the B1 floor of Building C at the government complex.
A search of the vehicle allegedly found equipment associated with drug use.
Yuenyong reportedly confessed to all charges. He told investigators that he had created the images and pretended to be a police officer because he wanted to impress several women he was dating after meeting them through social media.
He also admitted that the police identification card he used was self-made.
Police took Yuenyong to the Maha Sarakham Provincial Court for further legal proceedings.
