PHUKET — A 29-year-old Danish tourist was hospitalized after being stabbed by a security guard during a late-night altercation over public urination near a shopping mall. Police have arrested a 27-year-old security guard and charged him with attempted murder.
The incident occurred around 3:20 a.m. on December 28 when Mr. Nissen, 29, from Denmark, was attacked near Central shopping mall in Patong. According to police reports, the victim was waiting for transportation after leaving a bar in Bangla Road when he stopped to urinate near a construction barrier.
The suspect, identified as Daruwis, age 27, from Narathiwat province, who was working as a security guard at a nearby building, confronted the tourist about urinating in an inappropriate location. The confrontation escalated into a physical altercation, resulting in the security guard allegedly stabbing the tourist in the rib area with a folding knife.
The victim was immediately rushed to Patong Hospital, where emergency room doctors successfully removed the knife that was lodged under his right armpit. The weapon was handed over to police as evidence.
According to Mai Fah, 28, the victim’s Thai girlfriend from Narathiwat, Mr. Nissen had been drinking at a bar and later visited a restaurant in Soi Bangla before the incident occurred.
Police located and arrested the suspect around 10:00 p.m. at a house in Soi Kralim 6, Phra Barami 6 Road. The suspect was apprehended along with evidence including the vehicle used to flee the scene and clothes worn during the incident. He has been charged with attempted murder.
