PATTAYA — Police officers are reviewing CCTV footage of an altercation between a security guard at a nightlife venue and a British tourist. The Thai man has been charged after punching the Englishman, causing him to collapse to the ground.
CCTV footage reveals that around 11:30 p.m. on March 2, at Walking Street, in the alley opposite XO Club nightlife venue in South Pattaya, Chonburi Province, a security guard named Sarawut, age 33, punched the face of Mr. C (pseudonym), a 63-year-old British tourist. Officials brought Sarawut in for questioning.
Sarawut stated that while on duty at the front of the establishment, the British man was intoxicated and attempting to enter the venue but was denied entry due to his condition. When refused entry, he became visibly upset, leading to an argument. Mr. C kicked Sarawut in the groin, causing him to retaliate by pushing back, resulting in a scuffle.
Afterward, Sarawut walked away to the alley opposite the venue, but the British tourist continued following him, attempting to attack. Sarawut responded by punching the Englishman in the face, causing him to fall backward. The footage shows his head hitting the ground, resulting in an injury.
Staff from the Sawang Boriboon Foundation provided initial first aid before transporting Mr. C to Bangkok Hospital Pattaya for treatment. Meanwhile, patrol officers took Sarawut to Pattaya City Police Station investigators to face charges of assault causing bodily harm on March 3. This charge carries a penalty of imprisonment not exceeding 2 years, a fine not exceeding 40,000 baht, or both imprisonment and fine.
