Apple has unveiled the iPhone Duo, its first foldable iPhone: a 7.6-inch pocket-sized tablet with a titanium frame, two screens, a new A20 Pro chip, and a price tag that might leave your wallet more folded than the phone.
Apple’s first-ever foldable
When closed, it has a 5.4-inch outer display. Open it up and the phone becomes a 7.6-inch screen, 50% larger than the iPhone 18 Pro Max, according to Apple. Perhaps most importantly, users can finally watch videos hands-free on iPhone without the need to buy a 200 baht case.
The handset has a Grade 5 titanium frame and hinge cover, Ceramic Shield front and back, IP68 water and dust resistance, dual 48MP rear cameras, and Touch ID built into the side button. Face ID is absent, which may be a mercy: after checking the bank balance, some owners may prefer not to be recognised.
It also has an A20 Pro chip, a dual-battery system and up to 31 hours of video playback using the inner display. That should be enough time to watch every YouTube review, including the ones that spend 12 minutes explaining the hinge.
Apple has added software features to make good use of the larger display, including split-screen multitasking and the ability to prop the phone open for video calls, movies and standby mode. It is an iPhone, an iPad-like screen, a mini laptop stand, and, depending on storage choice, a gentle reminder that luxury has no upper limit.
The company also showed off the live camera preview, for anyone who needs a selfie camera with a little more main-character energy. An animated feature can also attract a child’s gaze, potentially proving useful for family-oriented influencers who need their kids to look at the camera, and for explaining to them later why their university fund is now a folding phone.
The iPhone Duo will be available in Night Sky and Star White. Pre-orders in Thailand begin at 19:00 on 16 October, with sales starting on 23 October.
Thailand pays extra for the Duo
The Duo starts at $1,999 for 256GB of storage in the United States, rising to $3,199 for the 2TB model. In Thailand it goes for 79,900 baht That is enough to buy a very capable laptop, a respectable holiday, or one exceptionally beautiful device for watching YouTube videos on your lunchtime break.
At that rate, the Thai price is 21.5% above a direct conversion; once 7% VAT is excluded, it is still about 13.5% higher. Apple’s Thai pricing is from Apple Thailand; U.S. pricing is from Apple.
What ฿79,900 could buy at Apple
The entry-level iPhone Duo costs ฿79,900 in Thailand. That is one folding phone, or:
- One iPhone 18 Pro and an iPad mini, with 9,100 baht still in the bank. No folding, but you still get 2 screens.
- Two iPhone 17s at 34,900 baht each, for you and your partner to watch with 10,100 baht left over
- Three iPad minis at 21,900 baht each, with 14,200 baht left over
- Four 11-inch iPads at 16,900 baht each, with 12,300 baht left over
Apple has spent years watching other manufacturers fold phones. It has now entered the market in familiar fashion: late, polished, confident and priced high enough to make sure you’ll only experience it in tech review videos and in-store demos.
The iPhone Duo may be the sensible choice for anyone who needs one device to be a phone, a tablet and an expensive conversation starter. Everyone else will be commenting about it from their Macbook Neo.
