About 1,300 People From Myanmar Flee Into Thailand After Clashes Broke Out in a Key Border Town

JINTAMAS SAKSORNCHAI, BANGKOK — About 1,300 people have fled from eastern Myanmar into Thailand, officials said Saturday, as fresh fighting erupted at a border town that has recently been captured by ethnic guerillas.

Fighters from the Karen ethnic minority last week captured the last of the Myanmar army’s outposts in and around Myawaddy, which is connected to Thailand by two bridges across the Moei River.

The latest clashes were triggered in the morning when the Karen guerillas launched an attack against Myanmar troops who were hiding near the 2nd Thai-Myanmar Friendship Bridge, a major crossing point for trade with Thailand, said police chief Pittayakorn Phetcharat in Thailand’s Mae Sot district. He estimated about 1,300 people fled into Thailand.

Thai officials reported people had started crossing since Friday following clashes in several areas of Myawaddy.

The fall of Myawaddy is a major setback for the military that seized power from the elected government of Aung San Suu Kyi in 2021. Myanmar’s once-mighty armed forces have suffered a series of unprecedented defeats since last October, losing swathes of territory including border posts to both ethnic fighters, who have been fighting for greater autonomy for decades, and pro-democracy guerrilla units that took up arms after the military takeover.

The clashes, involving drone attacks from the Karen forces and airstrikes by the Myanmar military, had subsided by noon Saturday compared to the morning, but Mae Sot police chief Pittayakorn Phetcharat said he could still hear sporadic gunshots. He said Thai authorities would move people fleeing into a safer area.

Footage from the Thai border showed Thai soldiers maintaining guard near the bridge with sounds of explosions and gunshots in the background. People with children waded across the river with their belongings and were received by Thai officials on the river bank. Several are seen taking shelter in buildings along the river bank on the Myanmar side.

Thailand’s Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin wrote on the social media platform X on Saturday that he was closely monitoring the situation at the border.

“I do not desire to see any such clashes have any impact on the territorial integrity of Thailand and we are ready to protect our borders and the safety of our people. At the same time, we are also ready to provide humanitarian assistance if necessary,” he wrote.

In March, Thailand delivered its first batch of humanitarian assistance to Myanmar for about 20,000 displaced people.

Nikorndej Balangura, a spokesman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, told reporters on Friday that Thailand is currently working to expand its aid initiative.

Thai Plastics Firm Will Pay $20 Million To Settle With U.S. Over Iran Sanctions Violations

WASHINGTON (AP) — A Bangkok-based plastics firm has agreed to pay $20 million to settle with the U.S. over 467 “egregious” violations of Iran sanctions, the U.S. Treasury announced on Friday.

SCG Plastics Co. used U.S. banks to process $291 million in sales of Iranian high-density polyethylene resin from 2017 to 2018, according to the signed settlement agreement between the firm and Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control.

The resin, used for product bottles and industrial items, was manufactured by an Iranian joint venture owned in part, by SCG Plastics’ parent company, SCG Chemicals and the National Petrochemical Company of Iran, which is a government entity.

The settlement states that SCG Plastics used “shipping and documentation practices that obfuscated the product’s Iranian origin and Iranian parties’ involvement,” which caused banks to unknowingly process transfers in violation of OFAC’s sanctions on Iran.

“As a result of these transactions, significant economic benefits were conferred to Iran’s petrochemical sector, a major source of revenue generation for the Iranian regime,” Treasury says. OFAC determined that the 467 violations of Iran sanctions were “egregious” and fined the company $20 million, which is to be paid within 90 days.

While SCG Plastics is no longer in operation, a signed agreement between OFAC and the firm releases SGC Plastics from any liability related to the sanctions violations.

The fines come as U.S. administration officials have announced plans to impose more sanctions on Iran after Tehran launched an unprecedented attack on Israel that could fuel a wider war in the Middle East.

On Thursday, the U.S. and U.K. imposed a new round of sanctions on Iranian people and firms associated with drone production.

“We will continue to deploy our sanctions authority to counter Iran with further actions in the days and weeks ahead,” Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen said.

“We have also vigorously enforced our sanctions, including by levying historic fines and exposing sanctions evasion schemes and networks. Our actions make it harder and costlier at every turn for Iran to continue its destabilizing behavior.”

As Late-Night Dining Grows, Restaurants Compete for Market Share

Restaurants
Nak-La Mookata

BANGKOK – Restaurants that stay open late into the night or into the early hours of the morning, for example, until 2 or 4 a.m., are a hot trend in the Thai hospitality industry.

Following the success of pioneers such as Suki Teenoi and Hai Di Lao, which have seen a steady flow of customers until late at night, other players in the restaurant industry are now also deciding to enter the late-night restaurant market.

One example is the Central Restaurants Group, which operates a chain of restaurants, desserts and beverages under the Central Group umbrella, and Thai President Foods, the manufacturer of Mama instant noodles.

Mr. Nat Wongpanich, executive director of Central Restaurants Group Co, Ltd (Public) or CGR, which operates 20 chains of restaurants, desserts and beverages, including KFC, Shinkansen Sushi, Ottoya, Mister Donut and many others, said that late-night dining being another potential segment of the food business with a total market value of around 430 billion baht. This is due to a number of factors, including high demand from the younger generation who use these venues not only for eating but also as a meeting place with friends.

Following this trend, the company has started to enter this late night segment with the launch of its steamboat restaurant “Nak-la Mookata”. The concept of the restaurant is an air-conditioned steamboat restaurant that is suitable for gatherings and is open from 11 am to 2 a.m.

It is also located in locations that are accessible late at night, such as near entrances and exits or in shopping centers. There are currently 6 branches: MBK Center, The Forest Phaholyothin, Victory Hub, Icon 56 Saimai, Paradise Place, which are open until 2 am, while the Future Park branch closes at 9 pm on weekdays and 9:30 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays.

The company is also studying opportunities to expand further in various forms, including joint ventures with potential partners or acquisitions.

Mr. Phan Panaiyaveth, Managing Director of Thai President Foods Co, Ltd (Public), the manufacturer and distributor of mama instant noodles, said in this regard that the potential for late-night restaurants to generate revenue is very high. This is shown by the experiment of opening a prototype “Mama Shop” which currently has three branches (HappyHub Badminton Court project in Ladprao area, Thammasat University Rangsit Centre and Minimal Mall project Petchaburi 98) since 2022.

Restaurants

It was found that sales in the late night hours, from 11 p.m. to 4 a.m., were three times higher than during the day, from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.

As a result, the company is expanding the “Mama Shop” model by opening the “Mama Station” in the RCA area, which offers a greater variety of food on the menu. It plans to open 2-3 more Mama Station outlets this year, with a focus on opening in popular nightlife areas such as Nimmanhaemin Road in Chiang Mai in June or July this year.

The company is also testing a new model in the form of a food truck, which was tested at Pattaya Water Space in early April and was very well received, especially by Chinese tourists. The advantage of this model is that it requires little investment and is easy to expand.

Restaurants
Suki Teenoi

Suki Teenoi, the pioneer of the late-night dining segment, which is open from 12 a.m. to 5 a.m. because there is no competition at that time and can appeal to night workers and night owls, is also planning to further expand its branches.

This year, the number of stores is to be increased from the current 55 to 60. The company will focus on opening branches in the provinces or open more branches in some provinces where it already has branches, such as Chiang Mai, Udon Thani, Khon Kaen, Rayong, Chonburi, etc.

The news conference announced the discovery of the Himalayan giant bee (ApislaboriosaSmith, 1871) in Thailand for the first time. .

BANGKOK – Songkiat Tatayanont, Deputy Director General of the Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation (DNP), announced on 19 April the discovery of the Himalayan giant bee (ApislaboriosaSmith, 1871) in Thailand for the first time. The bees were found in Doi Pha Hom Pok National Park in Chiang Mai province.

The discovery was made by a team of researchers led by Mr. Isarapong Woraphab, an entomologist with the DNP, Nontawat Chatthanabun, Dr. Chawatat Thanoosing, and Asst.Prof. Dr. Natthapoj Warit from the Department of Biology at Chulalongkorn University. The researchers have been studying the Himalayan giant bee, which was previously only known to exist in the Himalayan mountains of Nepal and India.

The Himalayan giant bee was first found in 2022, but it was still in the analysis phase to obtain accurate information. This bee species is different from the common Asian honey bee (Apis dorsata Fabricius, 1793), which is found in all regions of Thailand. They build large, solitary nests. Characteristic features of the Himalayan honeybee include a shiny black abdomen and golden yellow hairs around the thorax.

The Himalayan giant bee is found in high-altitude areas, typically between 1,000 and 4,500 meters above sea level, and prefers cool temperatures (less than 25°C). The bee is an important pollinator of high-altitude plant communities.

The honey produced by the Himalayan giant bee is said to have unique physical and chemical properties that make it highly desirable in the market. However, more research is needed to confirm these properties in the Thai population of the bee.

The discovery of the Himalayan giant bee is an important finding for biodiversity conservation in Thailand.

The discovery of the Himalayan giant bee is an important finding for biodiversity conservation in Thailand. It highlights the country’s rich biodiversity and the need to protect its natural habitats. Despite the threats posed by habitat destruction and climate change, the Himalayan giant bee is still able to thrive in certain parts of Thailand.

The Himalayan giant bee is the fifth species of bee in the genus Apis to be found in Thailand. The other four species are the Apis dorsata, Apis florea, Apis andreniformis, and the Apis cerana.

“This discovery is an important indicator of the rich biodiversity and environmental resources available in Thailand,” said Songkiat Tatayanont. “Although these resources are threatened by habitat destruction and climate change, we have succeeded in finding the Himalayan giant bee in Thailand.”

Iran Fires at Apparent Israeli Attack Drones Near Isfahan Air Base and Nuclear Site

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (AP) — An apparent Israeli drone attack on Iran saw troops fire air defenses at a major air base and a nuclear site early Friday morning near the central city of Isfahan, an assault coming in retaliation for Tehran’s unprecedented drone-and-missile assault on Israel.

No Iranian official directly acknowledged the possibility that Israel had attacked, and the Israeli military did not respond to a request for comment. However, tensions have been high since the Saturday assault on Israel amid its war on Hamas in the Gaza Strip and its own strikes targeting Iran in Syria.

Speaking at the G7 meeting in Capri, Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani said the U.S. received “last-minute” information from Israel about the attack on Isfahan. U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken did not dispute that, but said: “We were not involved in any offensive operations.”

(Planet Labs PBC via AP)

The apparent attack came on Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei’s 85th birthday. Israeli politicians also made comments hinting that the country had launched an attack.

Air defense batteries fired in several provinces over reports of drones being in the air, state television reported. Iranian army commander Gen. Abdolrahim Mousavi said crews targeted several flying objects.

“The explosion this morning in the sky of Isfahan was related to the shooting of air defense systems at a suspicious object that did not cause any damage,” Mousavi said. Others suggested the drones may be so-called quadcopters — four-rotor, small drones that are commercially available.

Authorities said air defenses fired at a major air base in Isfahan, which long has been home to Iran’s fleet of American-made F-14 Tomcats — purchased before the 1979 Islamic Revolution.

The Tasnim news agency published a video from one of its reporters, who said he was in the southeastern Zerdenjan area of Isfahan, near its “nuclear energy mountain.” The footage showed two different anti-aircraft gun positions, and details of the video corresponded with known features of the site of Iran’s Uranium Conversion Facility at Isfahan.

“At 4:45, we heard gunshots. There was nothing going on,” he said. “It was the air defense, these guys that you’re watching, and over there too.”

The facility at Isfahan operates three small Chinese-supplied research reactors, as well as handling fuel production and other activities for Iran’s civilian nuclear program.

Isfahan also is home to sites associated with Iran’s nuclear program, including its underground Natanz enrichment site, which has been repeatedly targeted by suspected Israeli sabotage attacks.

State television described all atomic sites in the area as “fully safe.” The United Nations’ nuclear watchdog, the International Atomic Energy Agency, also said “there is no damage to Iran’s nuclear sites” after the incident.

The IAEA “continues to call for extreme restraint from everybody and reiterates that nuclear facilities should never be a target in military conflicts,” the agency said.

Iran’s nuclear program has rapidly advanced to producing enriched uranium at nearly weapons-grade levels since the collapse of its atomic deal with world powers after then-President Donald Trump withdrew America from the accord in 2018.

While Iran insists its program is for peaceful purposes, Western nations and the IAEA say Tehran operated a secret military weapons program until 2003. The IAEA has warned that Iran now holds enough enriched uranium to build several nuclear weapons if it chose to do so — though the U.S. intelligence community maintains Tehran is not actively seeking the bomb.

Dubai-based carriers Emirates and FlyDubai began diverting around western Iran about 4:30 a.m. local time. They offered no explanation, though local warnings to aviators suggested the airspace may have been closed.

Iran then grounded commercial flights in Tehran and across areas of its western and central regions. Iran later restored normal flight service, authorities said.

Around the time of the incident in Iran, Syria’s state-run SANA news agency quoted a military statement saying Israel carried out a missile strike targeting an air defense unit in its south and causing material damage. The Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, an opposition war monitor, said the strike hit a military radar for government forces. It was not clear if there were casualties, the Observatory said.

That area of Syria is directly west of Isfahan, some 1,500 kilometers (930 miles) away, and east of Israel.

Meanwhile in Iraq, where a number of Iranian-backed militias are based, residents of Baghdad reported hearing sounds of explosions, but the source of the noise was not immediately clear.

The incident Friday in Iran also sparked concerns about the conflict again escalating across the seas of the Middle East, which have been seeing attacks by the Iranian-backed Houthi rebels of Yemen on shipping over the war in Gaza.

The British military’s United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations center warned ships in the region that they could see increased drone activity in the skies.

“There are currently no indications commercial vessels are the intended target,” it wrote.

The Houthis have launched at least 53 attacks on shipping, seized one vessel and sank another since November, according to the U.S. Maritime Administration.

Houthi attacks have dropped in recent weeks as the rebels have been targeted by a U.S.-led airstrike campaign in Yemen and as shipping through the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden has declined over the threat.

The apparent attack also briefly spooked energy markets, sending benchmark Brent crude above $90 before it fell again in trading Friday.

However, Iranian state-run media sought to downplay the incident after the fact, airing footage of an otherwise-peaceful Isfahan morning. That could be intentional, particularly after Iranian officials for days have been threatening to retaliate for any Israeli retaliatory attack on the nation.

“As long as Iran continues to deny the attack and deflect attention from it and no further hits are seen, there is space for both sides to climb down the escalation ladder for now,” said Sanam Vakil, the director of the Middle East and North Africa program at Chatham House.

We focus on clientele with high income, educational achievements, career success, stability in life, and a desire to find partners of similar social status. This elevates the dating experience from casual encounters through dating apps to meeting compatible partners who share similar values and lifestyles.

2  General Matchmaking Companies: These companies cater to a broader audience with average incomes, office workers, or individuals seeking partners with similar lifestyles. They do not emphasize social status or career achievements as much as high-end matchmaking companies.

3  Niche Matchmaking Companies: As the name suggests, these companies target specific groups based on shared interests or characteristics. While they may have a smaller member base, they offer tailored matchmaking services catering to specific preferences, such as singles of the same religion or those seeking international partners.

How do the clientele of matchmaking companies differ from those using dating apps?

A Polish Man Climbs Surat Thani Telecom Tower and Falls 62 Metres

Tower
The Polish man climbed on the telecommunication tower and sat in a meditative position.

SURAT THANI – Officials attempted to persuade a foreign man who had climbed a telecommunication tower to come down for about two hours, but were unsuccessful. He plunged from 62 metres and died.

The incident occurred at 10 a.m. on April 19 at the DTAC telecommunications tower in Village No. 2, Wiang Subdistrict, Chaiya District, Surat Thani Province. Villagers there alerted the Chaiya Police Station in Chaiya District to rush to assist a foreign guy who had climbed a very high tower, roughly 62 metres above ground.

pol jump1
No one knew why the Polish man climbed on the telecommunication tower and sat in a meditative position.

The officers then went to the scene, accompanied by rescue workers from the Chaiya District Charity Foundation. The telecom tower was roughly 100 metres from the intersection in Chaiya District. Villagers gathered to see the foreigner, hoping that the officials could assist him.

Throughout the negotiations, the police officers attempted to persuade the man, who was known later as Mr. Robert, a 49-year-old Polish man. He was sitting on a tower in a meditative position, taking off his shirt, and without responding to any questions. The rescue workers then prepared safety air cushions at the bottom.

Later, monks and language teachers from Suan Mokkh International Temple sought to persuade the man but were unsuccessful. After more than two hours, his man jumped to the ground 20 metres from the tower, dying instantly.

According to the early investigation, Mr. Robert spent roughly three days practicing Dhamma at Suan Mokkh International. Before climbing the tower, he carried a stick and destroyed a villager’s fence. He then climbed a telecom tower and plummeted to his death.

Officials sent the deceased to Surat Thani Hospital for an autopsy. They continued their investigation to determine the cause of the fatal incident and contacted the Polish embassy to notify relatives.

French Woman Arrested for Kidnap Plot Targeting Thai Business Mogul’s Daughter

Miss Sandra Christina Marie Diersten, a 45-year-old French woman, was apprehended at a hotel in Bangkok's Silom district on April 18, 2024.

BANGKOK – Thai police announced on April 19 the arrest of Miss Sandra Christina Marie Diersten, a 45-year-old French woman, on suspicion of leading a group of foreigners in a plot to rob and kidnap the 7-year-old daughter of a wealthy Thai businesswoman.

The arrest came after Ms. IIssaree Suwunnavid, CEO of Knightsbridge Bloodstock and KXCO, a blockchain technology company, filed a police report alleging that a gang of foreigners was planning to kidnap her daughter and demand a ransom of over 200 million baht.

According to police, one of the plotters had a change of heart and alerted Ms. Suwunnavid, allowing police to intervene before the plan could be carried out.

Miss Diersten denied the allegations against her, claiming that she was a legitimate businesswoman who had been defrauded into investing in a deal with Ms. Suwunnavid’s husband, an Australian citizen. She claimed she lost 185 million baht on the said investment. She claimed that she was framed in order to have her arrested and prevent the repayment of her investment.

Despite her claims, police have charged Miss Diersten with being a member of a secret society, a crime punishable by up to seven years in prison and a fine of up to 140,000 baht. If convicted as the leader of the group, she could face up to ten years in prison and a fine of up to 200,000 baht.

Iran Fires Air Defense Batteries in Provinces as Explosions Heard Near Isfahan

Isfahan

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (AP) — Iran fired air defense batteries early Friday morning as explosions could be heard near a major air base near Isfahan, raising fears of a possible Israeli strike following Tehran’s unprecedented drone-and-missile assault on the country.

It remained unclear if the country was under attack, as no Iranian official directly acknowledged the possibility and Israel’s military did not respond to a request for comment. However, tensions have remained high in the days since the early Saturday assault on Israel amid its war on Hamas in the Gaza Strip and its own strikes targeting Iran in Syria.

One Iranian government official suggested sites may have been targeted by drones.

IRNA said the defenses fired across several provinces. It did not elaborate on what caused the batteries to fire, though people across the area reported hearing the sounds.

In particular, IRNA said air defenses fired at a major air base in Isfahan, which long has been home to Iran’s fleet of American-made F-14 Tomcats — purchased before the 1979 Islamic Revolution.

The semiofficial Fars and Tasnim news agencies also reported the sound of blasts, without giving a cause. State television acknowledged “loud noise” in the area.

Isfahan also is home to sites associated with Iran’s nuclear program, including its underground Natanz enrichment site, which has been repeatedly targeted by suspected Israeli sabotage attacks. However, state television described all sites in the area as “fully safe.”

Dubai-based carriers Emirates and FlyDubai began diverting around western Iran about 4:30 a.m. local time. They offered no explanation, though local warnings to aviators suggested the airspace may have been closed.

Iran later announced it grounded commercial flights in Tehran and across areas of its western and central regions. Loudspeakers informed customers of the incident at Imam Khomeini International Airport in Tehran, online videos purported to show.

Iranian state television began a scrolling, on-screen alert acknowledging a “loud noise” near Isfahan, without immediately elaborating.

Hossein Dalirian, a spokesman for Iran’s civilian space program, said on the X social media platform that several small “quadcopter” drones had been shot down. It wasn’t immediately clear where that happened or if it was part of the ongoing incident in Iran.

Meanwhile in Iraq, where a number of Iranian-backed militias are based, residents of Baghdad reported hearing sounds of explosions, but the source of the noise was not immediately clear.

FLIGHTS DIVERT AROUND WESTERN IRAN AS ‘EXPLOSIONS’ REPORTED OVER ISFAHAN

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates — Commercial planes began diverting their routes early Friday morning over western Iran without explanation as one semiofficial news agency in the Islamic Republic said “explosions” had been heard over the city of Isfahan. State television acknowledged the sound.

The incident comes as tensions remain high in the wider Middle East after Iran’s unprecedented missile-and-drone attack on Israel.

Dubai-based carriers Emirates and FlyDubai offered no explanation for diverting around western Iran, though local warnings to aviators suggested the airspace might have been closed.

The semiofficial Fars news agency reported the sound of explosions over Isfahan near its international airport. It offered no explanation for the blast. Isfahan, some 350 kilometers (215 miles) south of Tehran. is home to a major airbase for the Iranian military as well as sites associated with its nuclear program.

Iranian state television began a scrolling, on-screen alert acknowledging a “loud noise” near Isfahan, without immediately elaborating.

IRAN SAYS IT WILL RESPOND TO ANY ISRAELI ATTACK

UNITED NATIONS – Iran’s foreign minister is again warning Israel that any use of force in response to his country’s recent drone and missile attacks will be “decisive” and “make the regime regret its actions.”

Hossein Amirabdollahian told a ministerial meeting of the U.N. Security Council on Thursday that Iran’s attack over the weekend was a legitimate response to a suspected Israeli missile strike on its embassy compound in Syria on April 1 has concluded. Therefore, he said, Israel “must be compelled to stop any further military adventurism against our interests.”

Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Israel will retaliate.

Amirabdollahian warned, “Certainly, in case of any use of force by the Israeli regime, and violating our sovereignty, the Islamic Republic of Iran will not hesitate a bit to assert its inherent rights to give a decisive and proper response to make the regime regret its actions.”

Iran and its allies fired more than 300 drones and missiles toward Israel, and 99% were blocked by Israeli air defenses with help from the U.S., Britain, France and Jordan. A 7-year-old girl was hurt, and an Israeli base suffered minor damage.

“Hong Kong Ghost” Photo of Thai Influencer Sparks Debate

Hong Kong Ghost
A photo posted by ANNDAY, the Youtuber, while travelling in Hong Kong shows a mysterious woman in a dark red shirt clutching her back. It has since gone viral on the internet.

BANGKOK – When a YouTuber named ANNDAY posted a photo while traveling in Hong Kong, showing a mysterious woman in a dark red shirt clutching her back, it has become viral on the internet, making the hashtag #HongKongGhost the number one trend on social media X.

“You just have to adjust the light to be brighter. A ghost becomes a human, haha,” wrote Dr. Jessada Denduangboripant.

The caption suggests that it could be a ghost picture, as she did not see the woman at all when the picture was taken, which sparked a lot of criticism, both from believers and non-believers.

This includes a comment by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Jessada Denduangboripant, lecturer at the Department of Biology, Faculty of Science, Chulalongkorn University, who frequently publishes messages explaining various beliefs as scientific findings rather than supernatural phenomena: “You just have to the light to be brighter. A ghost becomes a human, haha”

On April 18, he said in an interview with Matichon Online that the woman in the red shirt in the picture is clearly a person from the beginning. And when the light is adjusted and the image is enlarged, it can be clearly seen that it is a person and not a ghost.

“It is possible that people focus on the screen when taking pictures or selfies and do not pay attention to what is happening behind them, such as whether someone is walking by or something is passing by. This needs to be verified through the store’s security cameras,” he added.

When asked how he sees this story going viral, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Jessada said that he sees it as a normal thing that happens in other countries as well. Because the story immediately becomes interesting when there is an image of something mysterious, and the more opinions are divided into two sides, both believers and non-believers, the more likely it becomes a trend and goes viral.

“I’m not talking about this case, but I think what is worrying is that society is starting to create more and more content that could cause panic. Some countries, like China, have even passed laws banning the creation of content that misleads the public. For example, reporting that a wallet has been found and the owner is being sought. It later turns out that the story is not true, but just a hoax. This will be punished immediately,” he stated.

Netizens noticed that “the Hong Kong Ghost” wears designer brands totaling over 30,000 baht from head to toe, making her a modern ghost.

Rachapol Sirisakorn, a lawyer, agrees that the “Hong Kong ghost” story could land people in jail if a camera check reveals it is a person and not a ghost, but tells others it is a ghost. Causing public panic can be punishable under Article 384 of the Penal Code with up to one month’s imprisonment or a fine of up to 10,000 baht, or both imprisonment and a fine.

In addition to serious legal opinions, netizens have also taken issue with the Hong Kong ghost’s fashion look, poking fun at the fact that she wears designer brands totaling over 30,000 baht from head to toe, making her a modern ghost.

“Be it a famous shirt from the British brand Turnbull & Asser worth around 21,330 baht, pants from ZARA worth 1,290 baht or shoes from the American sneaker brand AUTRY worth around 6,800 baht,” it stated.

At the same time, The Parallel, the place where the YouTuber took the picture, posted a message on Instagram theparallel_hk that its staff were working on recovering various clips as the incident happened a while ago, so it’s taking time to find them.

However, later on Thursday night, it posted an update message saying, “We’re on a mission to recover the CCTV footage that has mysteriously gone missing! But fear not; we’re not giving up. We’re determined to crack the case and unravel the mystery behind it.

While we’re at it, we’re contacting the responsible individuals at nearby stores to score their CCTV footage and play detective to identify the car owner in those snapshots. 🔍
