Bangkok Marriott Marquis Queen’s Park Livestreams 2016 TED

Marriott Hotels, which has been an official TED partner since 2016, recently hosted an exclusive livestreaming event of the 2019 TED Conference at Bangkok Marriott Marquis Queen’s Park.

The theme of this year’s conference, which took place in Vancouver, was Bigger than us. Speakers used the platform to search for greater meaning in the world by exploring cutting-edge new technologies, future-shaping science, mind-expanding creativity and inspiring possibilities.

The invite-only 2019 TED Conference had a limited capacity, but thanks to the partnership with Marriott, customers of Bangkok Marriott Marquis Queen’s Park were able to tune in to the live action from the comfort of the hotel. Hosted at the Sala Thai Ballroom on 27th May 2019, the livestreaming event also included a special “Live Talk” session with three guest speakers from local community who provided the opportunity for thought-provoking discussions.

Live speakers at Bangkok Marriott Marquis Queen’s Park included Asst. Professor Punsa Ekpornprasit, Ph.D. at King Monkut’s University of Technology Thonburi’s Faculty of Industrial Education & Technology, who spoke on the issue of “Volunteer Spirit Brings Happiness.” Also addressing the event was Vicharee Vichit-Vadakan, founder of Kinnest Group, who discussed the subject of “Building a wholesome community.” Finally, Janet Salam, Programme Officer for Resource Efficiency and Sustainable Consumption at the UN Environment Programme, addressed attendees in a thought-provoking session entitled: “Why did I buy that? The psychology behind our consumption decisions.”

The event also featured a series of innovative breaks and F&B solutions, created by the hotel, which reflected the sustainability issue. For example, a pedal-powered “Bike Blender” was used to make juice for guests, and fresh spring rolls were made using herbs from a hydroponic garden. In a live challenge, a “Household Fridge” was sparsely stocked with the ingredients commonly left over in fridges at home, and the hotel’s chef was tasked with creating delicious dishes using these basic ingredients, highlighting the issue of food waste. In addition, guests learned how to make soap from cooking oil.

A “Future Teller” allowed attendees to shake a traditional red siam si (fortune stick) to reveal facts about the future of Planet Earth, and an “Idea Wall” was used to allow guests to showcase their own thoughts and solutions. Finally, a “Commitment Corner” challenged each guest to commit to one positive action they think they could accomplish.

TED is dedicated to the exchange of exciting ideas through short and meaningful speeches. Through its partnership with Marriott Hotels, TED is able to bring creatively curated TED Talks to guest rooms, unique TED Fellows Salons to hotels worldwide, and exclusive live streaming opportunities, helping guests and travelers get closer to the action.

Bangkok Marriott Marquis Queen’s Park was one of only 12 Marriott hotels worldwide selected to livestream the 2019 TED Conference.
