DE warns the public about the fake “Anti-Electronic Fraud Center” Facebook page impersonating the Immigration Bureau and claiming to help victims recover money lost to scammers, urging people to beware of financial losses and theft of personal information.
The Ministry of Digital Economy and Society (DE), through the Anti-Fake News Center Thailand (AFNC), has released the latest results of its fake news monitoring and reporting efforts. The initiative is in line with the policy of Mr.Chaichanok Chidchob, Minister of Digital Economy and Society, to strengthen public awareness of technology-related crimes, fake news, and misinformation.
On 2 August 2026, AFNC monitored a total of 109,956 messages and identified 12,543 messages requiring verification. The largest number of reports came from Social Listening channels, accounting for 12,542 messages, followed by one report received through LINE. A total of 24 issues were investigated, with verification results received from relevant agencies for 10 cases.
Among the seven stories that attracted the greatest public attention, one was confirmed as true, three were identified as fake news, and three were classified as misleading information. These included:
Misleading Information: China accounts for 71% of total investment in Thailand.
True News: The Joint Boundary Commission (JBC) confirmed that Ban Nong Ya Kaeo is not a disputed area but clearly belongs to Thailand.
Fake News: Cambodian soldiers brought civilians to cause disturbances near the container barrier at the Thomoda border area.
Fake News: The Department of Fisheries’ fiscal year 2027 budget contains no allocation to address the blackchin tilapia problem.
Misleading Information: An urgent policy to restructure the public sector and dissolve government agencies will begin in September 2026.
Misleading Information: Thailand is preparing to import chicken meat from China for domestic sale.
Fake News: Sa Kaeo Immigration Office has opened the “Anti-Electronic Fraud Center” Facebook page to help victims recover money lost to scammers.
One of the most notable fake stories claimed that the Sa Kaeo Immigration Office had launched the “Anti-Electronic Fraud Center” Facebook page to assist victims in recovering money from scammers. The DE Ministry coordinated with the Immigration Bureau and confirmed that the page is fake.
The Facebook page was created to imitate the name of a legitimate agency, Anti Cyber Scammer Center (ACSC), in an attempt to deceive the public. The Sa Kaeo Immigration Office confirmed that it has not created any Facebook page offering assistance in recovering money from scammers.
The public is strongly advised not to provide personal information or transfer money for any transactions requested through such fraudulent pages.
The DE Ministry remains concerned about the spread of fake news and misinformation across online and social media platforms. Sharing unverified information may lead to misunderstanding, financial losses, misuse of personal information, and broader impacts on society.
The public is encouraged to trust and share information only from official sources and to carefully verify facts and website links before believing or forwarding any information.
