DE Minister advances the Digital Post ID (D/ID) initiative through cooperation between the Personal Data Protection Committee (PDPC) and Thailand Post to strengthen personal data protection and upgrade Thailand’s digital data infrastructure.
On 10 September 2026, Mr.Chaichanok Chidchob, Minister of Digital Economy and Society (DE), chaired a meeting on strengthening cooperation between the Personal Data Protection Committee (PDPC) and Thailand Post Co., Ltd. to protect citizens’ personal information. The meeting was attended by Pol.Col.Surapong Plengkham, Secretary-General of the PDPC; Dr.Danan Suphatthaphanich, President and Chief Executive Officer of Thailand Post; and relevant officials at Meeting Room 1101, 11th Floor, Ministry of Digital Economy and Society.
Mr.Chaichanok said the Government places great importance on personal data protection and has elevated the issue to a national priority. The meeting with PDPC and Thailand Post followed concerns that personal information displayed on parcel labels and used in delivery services is one of the sources of personal data leaks. According to the Royal Thai Police, more than 700,000 online crime cases were reported between January and August 2026, with over 70% involving online buying and selling scams, making this one of the most common methods used by scammers.

The DE Ministry has therefore assigned PDPC and Thailand Post to integrate their information systems and operations to strengthen personal data protection through the development of Digital Post ID (D/ID). The system aims to reduce the risk of personal information exposure on parcel labels by replacing names, addresses, and telephone numbers with a QR Code linked to a six-character identification code. This mechanism is designed to enhance data security and comply with the Personal Data Protection Act (PDPA).

Thailand Post has already begun testing the Digital Post ID (D/ID) system, with more than 24,000 employees registered to participate in the trial. Public awareness activities will also be conducted to encourage customers using Thailand Post’s parcel delivery services to test the system in the next phase.
At the same time, the Address ID database will serve as an important national database supporting the development of Thailand’s digital infrastructure. Mr.Chaichanok has instructed Thailand Post to integrate relevant information with the Department of Provincial Administration under the Ministry of Interior and the Department of Business Development (DBD) under the Ministry of Commerce. The objective is to ensure accurate, well-organized data management and enable data analysis to support policymaking that better responds to public needs, while maintaining PDPC personal data protection standards.
“The development of the D/ID system is an important initiative that can encourage other logistics and delivery service providers to participate in the transition. It will also support the continued development and updating of the country’s essential digital infrastructure databases.

“I have instructed Thailand Post and PDPC to establish robust security measures to prevent data leaks and maintain the highest standards of personal data protection. At the same time, the agencies must listen to both positive and negative feedback from all sectors regarding changes to parcel delivery services.
“The transition must prioritize convenience, avoid placing additional burdens on service users, ensure the security of personal information, and deliver the greatest possible benefits to the public,” the DE Minister concluded.
