NAKHON RATCHASIMA — Princess Siribha Chudabhorn has taken in “Moo Daeng”, a dog dubbed the “Hachiko of Korat” for the unwavering loyalty with which her waited for her deceased owner outside a store in Yamo Market in Nakhon Ratchasima. The princess shared the news on her official Facebook page to address the concerns of dog lovers following Moo Daeng’s heartwarming yet tragic story.
“To all of Moo Daeng’s fans, I want to bring you up to speed so you don’t have to worry, feel anxious or have unanswered questions after all the recent drama,” the princess began.
She explained that she first learned about Moo Daeng through a video showing the community’s efforts to raise money for the dog’s medical treatment.
Moo Daeng was originally cared for by an individual named Iw, but due to Iw’s health problems, Iw was unable to take Moo Daeng home. Concerned about the dog’s welfare, the princess offered to help care for Moo Daeng and find a loving and safe home for her.

“All my dogs have experienced trauma, whether through abuse, abandonment or injury. But in Moo Daeng’s case, it’s severe depression. Yes, dogs and cats are not so different from us, if we are only observant enough to notice them. Since I raise my pets like my own children, their mental health comes first. Moo Daeng suffers from what is known as Major Depressive Syndrome, which is caused by the sudden loss of a loved one. It’s a condition that the mind can not cope with,” said the princess.
The princess also spoke about her personal experiences, revealing that she has been living with it for 9-10 years. “I want to make everyone realize that this mental health condition, if not understood, can cause irreparable damage to Moo Daeng, both mentally and physically. While humans are able to hide their pain and appear normal on the outside, dogs are pure. They show exactly how they feel,” she explained.
She emphasized that it was not her intention to take Moo Daeng away from everyone, but to ensure that the dog receives urgent psychological care.
“I swear on my life that I will love and care for Moo Daeng like my own child, just like all my other pets. You can follow the news about Moo Daeng via my page. If I’m busy and don’t post anything, feel free to comment and say you miss him or ask for photos — I’ll be sure to post them. If I ever come to Korat, I will bring Moo Daeng in person to meet everyone. Thank you for listening to me,” the princess concluded.

The adoption process was described in detail on the Facebook page Mari-Mo Photography. The princess instructed her royal aides to contact the Provincial Livestock Department and the veterinarians who had treated Moo Daeng. They also contacted the owner of the grocery store on January 20.
The Princess explained her standards of care for Moo Daeng to facilitate the decision-making process. On January 22, the Provincial Livestock Department transported Moo Daeng to the Kasetsart College Veterinary Hospital in Thipphiman. Two employees of the store and he owner of Mari-Mo Photography Facebook page were present to learn details and observe before Moo Daeng was finally taken to the princess’s residence in Chiang Mai.
