Thailand’s traditional national dress will take center stage in Tokyo this September, with an exhibition showcasing all eight styles of Chud Thai Phra Ratchaniyom at the Tokyo National Museum.
Organized by Thailand’s Ministry of Culture, the “Chud Thai: The Knowledge, Craftsmanship and Practices of the Thai National Costume” exhibition will be held at the Hyokeikan at the Tokyo National Museum on 17-18 September 2026.
The exhibition will feature all eight styles of Chud Thai Phra Ratchaniyom, alongside demonstrations of traditional Thai craftsmanship, including ancient threadwork, traditional frame embroidery, and silver and goldsmithing.
The program will also include special lectures by Assistant Professor Dr. Anucha Thirakanont, director of the Sustainable Arts and Crafts Institute of Thailand (SACIT), and Piyavara Teekara Netnoi, director of the Queen Sirikit Museum of Textiles.
On 17 September, exhibition sessions will run from 10:00-11:00, 11:00-12:00, 14:00-15:00 and 15:00-16:00, with a special lecture from 14:00-16:00.
On 18 September, exhibition sessions will be held from 10:00-11:00 and 11:00-12:00, followed by a special lecture from 14:00-15:00.
Admission is free, but separate registration is required for the exhibition and special lectures. Places are limited and will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.
Visitors must print their registration confirmation email and present it upon arrival.
