Police officers conduct a K-9 unit search of the international school premises in Bangkok, on December 9, 2024.

BANGKOKAn IT staff member at an international school in Bangkok has been arrested for fabricating a bomb threat after an investigation revealed he created a false email threat in response to potential termination of his employment.

The incident unfolded on December 9 when Jessada, an IT employee at the international school located in Saphan Sung district, reported receiving an allegedly threatening email at 9:15 AM. The email, written in English, contained religious-themed threats about bombing the school.

According to Police Colonel Surapong Putkhao, Commander of Prawet Police Station, the report prompted an immediate evacuation of approximately 970 students. A thorough sweep of the premises was conducted by Metropolitan Police Bureau Division 4, alongside EOD specialists and police canine units. After a 90-minute search, no explosive devices or suspicious objects were found.

Further investigation by the Metropolitan Police Division 4 and Prawet Police Station revealed that Jessada had fabricated the threat. During questioning, he admitted to creating the false email due to concerns about his job security. The school’s director disclosed that Jessada was under review following the disappearance of approximately 32 pieces of IT equipment, including computers and iPads, under his supervision.

The incident caused significant disruption to school operations, with all students being sent home by 2:30 PM on the day of the threat. School operations have since returned to normal with standard security measures in place.
