PATTAYA — A 57-year-old Swiss national passed away after suffering a sudden loss of consciousness while riding his motorcycle in South Pattaya on Monday afternoon.
The incident occurred in Soi Bua Khao when the man suddenly collapsed while riding his motorcycle to pick up his 4-5 year old son from school. The collapse caused his motorcycle to fall and make minor contact with a local songthaew (public transport vehicle). He was en route to Wat Chai Mongkol Kindergarten at the time of the incident.
Emergency responders found him unconscious at the scene and immediately began performing CPR while waiting for additional medical support. The patient was rushed to Pattaya City Hospital for emergency treatment, where medical staff later pronounced him deceased despite their efforts.
Ms. Sangwan Niyomchat, 48, the child’s caregiver, said the Swiss father had returned to Thailand just two months ago. “He loved his son very much. The boy was born to his former Thai partner, with whom he had separated. Whenever he was in Thailand, he would always take care of his son and pick him up from school,” she said.
Initial indications suggest the death was caused by a sudden medical condition rather than injuries from the minor motorcycle incident. Authorities are conducting further investigation.
