BANGKOK — 27 August 2026, The Meteorological Department has forecast heavy rain in parts of eastern Thailand, the western parts of the North and the Central region over the next 24 hours, with thunderstorms covering 60% of the area in some regions.
The department said a relatively strong southwest monsoon is prevailing over the Andaman Sea, Thailand and the Gulf of Thailand. Meanwhile, a monsoon trough stretches across Myanmar and upper Laos into a strong low-pressure cell over southern China.
People in affected areas are advised to beware of heavy rain and accumulated rainfall, which could cause flooding and other hazards.
Winds and waves in the upper Andaman Sea are relatively strong, with waves reaching 2-3 metres and exceeding 3 metres in areas experiencing thunderstorms. The upper Gulf of Thailand will see waves of around 2 metres, rising above 2 metres during thunderstorms.
Boaters in the Andaman Sea and Gulf of Thailand are urged to exercise caution and avoid sailing through thunderstorms. Small boats in the upper Andaman Sea should remain ashore for the time being.

North: Thunderstorms will cover 60% of the area, with isolated heavy rain in Mae Hong Son, Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Tak, Phitsanulok and Phetchabun. Temperatures will range from 24-28°C, with highs of 33-36°C. Southwest winds will blow at 10-20 km/h.
Northeast: Thunderstorms will cover 40% of the area, mainly in Bueng Kan, Sakon Nakhon, Nakhon Phanom, Mukdahan and Ubon Ratchathani. Temperatures will range from 24-26°C, with highs of 31-35°C. Southwest winds will rainlow at 10-25 km/h.
Central region: Thunderstorms will cover 60% of the area, with isolated heavy rain in Kanchanaburi, Saraburi and Ratchaburi. Temperatures will range from 23-26°C, with highs of 33-36°C. Southwest winds will blow at 10-25 km/h.
East: Thunderstorms will cover 60% of the area, with isolated heavy rain in Nakhon Nayok, Prachin Buri, Chanthaburi and Trat. Temperatures will range from 25-28°C, with highs of 30-34°C. Southwest winds will blow at 20-35 km/h. Waves will be around 2 metres, rising above 2 metres during thunderstorms.
South, east coast: Thunderstorms will cover 30% of the area, mainly in Phetchaburi, Prachuap Khiri Khan, Chumphon, Surat Thani, Yala and Narathiwat. Temperatures will range from 21-25°C, with highs of 32-37°C.
From Surat Thani northward, southwest winds will blow at 20-35 km/h, with waves of 1-2 metres and offshore waves around 2 metres. Waves will exceed 2 metres during thunderstorms.
From Nakhon Si Thammarat southward, southwest winds will blow at 15-35 km/h. Waves will be around 1 metre, rising to 1-2 metres offshore and exceeding 2 metres during thunderstorms.
South, west coast: Thunderstorms will cover 40% of the area, with isolated heavy rain in Ranong and Phang Nga. Temperatures will range from 24-26°C, with highs of 30-35°C.
From Phuket northward, southwest winds will blow at 20-40 km/h, with waves of 2-3 metres and waves exceeding 3 metres during thunderstorms.
From Krabi southward, southwest winds will blow at 15-35 km/h, with waves of 1-2 metres and waves exceeding 2 metres during thunderstorms.
Bangkok and its vicinity: Thunderstorms will cover 60% of the area, mainly from the afternoon through the evening. Temperatures will range from 27-28°C, with highs of 33-35°C. Southwest winds will blow at 10-25 km/h.
