SARABURI — 30 August 2026, Heavy rain in upstream and highland areas of Cha-om subdistrict in Kaeng Khoi district, triggered flash floods on 30 August, affecting residents and tourists in several areas.
The heavy rain began at around 18:00 on 30 August 2026, causing large volumes of runoff to surge downhill and affect villages in Moo 2, Moo 8, Moo 9, Moo 10 and Moo 11 of Cha-om.
The heaviest rainfall was reported around Chet Kot Waterfall in Moo 11 and Krok E-Dok Waterfall in Moo 5. The resulting runoff flowed rapidly into lower-lying areas, first affecting Moo 9 around Khlong Hin Ruang.
Some tourists became stranded at their accommodation in the area. Community leaders and officials intervened to assist them, with everyone eventually brought to safety.
The floodwaters then continued downstream toward Moo 8, Ban Hin Tang, where strong currents were reported near the Thai-Lao Bridge. The water subsequently flowed into lower-lying areas of Moo 2, Moo 7 and Moo 10.
In some locations, floodwaters entered residential areas, while travel became difficult.
Fallen trees also blocked roads, temporarily cutting off access along some routes. The headman of Moo 10 brought in a backhoe to remove fallen trees and other obstacles, helping reopen roads and facilitate travel for residents.
The response was supported by the Kaeng Khoi district administration, subdistrict headmen, village headmen, assistant village headmen, the local medical officer, Cha-om subdistrict kamnan inspectors and the Cha-om Subdistrict Administrative Organisation.
Officials have continued to monitor the situation and provide assistance to affected residents and tourists.
Authorities said the flooding was caused by heavy rain in upstream and highland areas, sending large volumes of water rapidly into lower-lying areas. Some communities are located near streams and waterways, meaning rising water levels caused runoff to enter accommodation areas and low-lying locations.
