BANGKOK — 1 September 2026, Thailand’s final round of the 2026 National Balance Bike Championship will be held on 6 September at Kamol Sports Park (FBT) on Suwinthawong Road in Nong Chok district, with the event also serving as part of the selection process for Thailand’s national team for the 2027 Asian Balance Bike Championship.
Gen. Decha Hemkrasri, president of the Cycling Association of Thailand, said the championship is being organized by the association in cooperation with Sino-Pacific Trading (Thailand) Co., Ltd., the Thai Health Promotion Foundation (ThaiHealth), and FBT Sports.
The fifth and final round of the championship, held for the Royal Cup graciously bestowed by Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn, is expected to draw a large field as riders compete to determine the national champions in each age category and the winners of the Royal Cups.
The event will also help select riders for the 2027 Asian Balance Bike Championship, which Thailand will host for the second time.
At a meeting of the Asian Cycling Confederation (ACC) executive committee in Malaysia on 6 August, chaired by ACC President Datuk Amarjit Singh Gill, members approved Thailand as the host for next year’s championship. The decision reflected the country’s capabilities and readiness to stage the event, according to Gen Decha.
Under the agreement reached between the Cycling Association of Thailand and the ACC, the Asian Balance Bike Championship 2027 will feature 14 categories. They will include riders aged under 2, as well as those aged 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7, and riders aged 8-11, with separate boys’ and girls’ categories.
Age eligibility will be based on year of birth. The competition will be held in racing format on a circuit, with each race covering no more than 300 metres.
The Cycling Association of Thailand has initially scheduled the 2027 Asian Balance Bike Championship for 26 June 2027 at Central Korat shopping mall in Nakhon Ratchasima.
Selection criteria
Gen Decha said the selection of Thailand’s national team for the Asian championship will follow several criteria.
For the 3-, 4-, 5-, 6- and 7-year-old categories, riders must have competed in at least four rounds of the 2026 National Balance Bike Championship and rank among the top three in accumulated points in their respective categories, except for the 8-11 age group.
The names of riders eligible to compete will be announced on the association’s website at www.thaicycling.or.th.
A further selection will be made from the first round of the 2027 National Balance Bike Championship, scheduled for 2 May 2027 at Central Korat. The top two finishers in each eligible category will qualify for the corresponding age category at the Asian championship, excluding the Open5 and Open7 categories.
For riders under 2 and those aged 2, up to 10 riders per category will be selected from the first round of the 2027 national championship at Central Korat. They will represent Thailand in the 2-year-old category. Eligible riders must be born in 2025.
For the 8-11 age group, riders will be selected from the accumulated points in the 2026 national championship. The top two riders in the Open7 and Open10 categories will qualify, provided they were born between 2016 and 2019.
A further selection for the 8-11 age group will be made from the top two finishers in the Open10 category at the first round of the 2027 national championship at Central Korat.
The association also reserves the right to select additional riders under the second selection criterion for age categories included in the 2027 Asian Balance Bike Championship, based primarily on age category. The Open5, Open7 and Open10 categories are excluded.
Each age category will have no more than 10 Thai national team riders competing at the 2027 Asian championship.
Riders who qualify through the 2026 national championship or the first round of the 2027 championship must confirm their eligibility and submit their Thai national team jersey size by 15 May 2027 at 15:00 via www.thaicycling.or.th.
Those who fail to confirm by the deadline will be considered to have forfeited their right to compete. The association will not consider the next-ranked riders for replacement.
Final round preparations
The fifth and final round of the 2026 National Balance Bike Championship on 6 September will be held in racing format.
The course layout will be revealed on Friday, 4 September at 12:00 via the Thailand Cycling Association’s Facebook page.
Riders will be allowed to train on Saturday, 5 September from 09:00 to 17:00. A team managers’ meeting will be held at 17:00 on the third floor of the FBT office building inside Kamol Sports Park.
Gen Decha said the association has prepared honorary trophies for all participating riders, following the same practice as the previous round, as a way to recognize their dedication and continuous training.
Riders who do not advance to the final 10, including those finishing 11th or lower, will also receive an honorary trophy, certificate and a souvenir stuffed-animal bouquet. All participants will additionally receive commemorative medals graciously bestowed by Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn.
“The Cycling Association of Thailand places great importance on creating positive experiences for children and their families,” Gen Decha said.
He added that the association has also increased the number of prizes in its lucky draw to encourage all young balance bike riders taking part.
“The association hopes to make the National Balance Bike Championship a platform for learning, skill development, happiness and inspiration for Thai children in a sustainable way,” he said.
Parents interested in entering their children in the fifth and final round of the 2026 National Balance Bike Championship at Kamol Sports Park can register at www.thaicycling.or.th until 17:00 on Friday, 4 September.
On-site registration will also be available at the FBT office building inside Kamol Sports Park on Saturday, 5 September from 09:00 to 17:00.
