A local Facebook user shared a video of the incident, showing the tourist falling into a drain in Kata, Karon subdistrict, Muang district, Phuket.
In the video, the woman can be seen inside the drain while a foreign man, believed to be her boyfriend, attempts to help her. He eventually manages to pull her out of the drain.
The post also raised questions about the condition of the area and its infrastructure, accompanied by a sarcastic comment about tourists seeking experiences when visiting Thailand.
The video drew a large number of comments from social media users, with many expressing concern over whether the woman was injured. Others criticised safety measures and the management of public areas.
Comments included “Is she badly hurt?”, “Oh, this is Thailand,” “Taxes are meant to be stolen for everything,” and “Embarrassing.”
