Thailand Announces Measures To Crack Down on Cambodia-Based Cybercrime as Border Tensions Soar

By JINTAMAS SAKSORNCHAI

BANGKOK (AP) — Thailand’s Prime Minister announced heightened measures to crack down on cybercrime that target neighboring Cambodia, including barring travel by casino tourists and cutting internet services to Cambodian military and security agencies.

Relations between the countries have deteriorated following an armed confrontation May 28 in which one Cambodian soldier was killed in a relatively small, contested territory.

Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra said Monday that officials will tighten border restrictions with Cambodia by stopping cars and individuals attempting to enter or leave Thailand with exceptions for students, medical patients or others who need to purchase essential goods.

Thailand will block tourists who intend to visit Cambodia’s casinos and impose stricter screening measures on air passengers who wish to fly to Siem Reap, Cambodia, to gamble. She did not elaborate on how authorities will separate casino tourists from people visiting the country for other types of tourism.

Cambodia has blocked internet services, electricity and fuel supplies from Thailand in response to the border dispute, which could have economic implications for both nations.

The average monthly imports of gasoline and other fuel to Cambodia from Thailand is 85,426 metric tons (94,166 tons), which is 30% of all national imports. The average monthly liquid natural gas import from Thailand is 1,848 metric tons (2,037 tons), which is 4% of the national total, according to the Cambodian Ministry of Commerce.

An April U.N. report says transnational organized crime groups in East and Southeast Asia are spreading lucrative scam operations across the globe. Scam centers bilking victims out of billions of dollars through false romantic ploys, bogus investment pitches and illegal gambling schemes are now being reported in Asia, Africa and Latin America. The report mentions Cambodia as one of the world’s major cybercrime hubs.

Paetongtarn said Thailand will consider blocking exports of goods that could facilitate scam operations in Cambodia and will coordinate with other countries and international agencies for operations to crack down on cybercrime based in Southeast Asia.

Cambodian and Thai authorities have engaged in saber-rattling since the deadly clash in May. While the two countries said afterwards they have agreed to de-escalate the situation, they continue to implement or threaten measures short of armed force, keeping tensions high.

Paetongtarn has been attacked over her perceived soft stance toward Cambodia, especially by right-wing nationalists who are longtime foes of her father, former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra.

phone call leaked last week between Paetongtarn and Cambodian Senate President Hun Sen, the former prime minister who ruled over four decades, sparked outrage and calls for Paetongtarn’s resignation.

Critics said she tried to appease Hun Sen, a longtime friend of her father, and made Thailand look weak by calling a Thai army commander in charge of the disputed border area as “an opponent.” Several nationalist activist groups have planned a rally this week to demand Paetongtarn’s resignation.

Elderly Latvian Drug Smuggler Intercepted at Bangkok Airport

Heroin packages disguised as sausages, hidden in a stretcher frame belonging to a Latvian tourist, are discovered by Thai authorities at Suvarnabhumi Airport on June 22, 2025.

SUVARNABHUMI — Thai authorities arrested a 71-year-old Latvian man attempting to smuggle approximately 3 kilograms of heroin through Suvarnabhumi Airport while in transit from Laos to Malaysia.

The Investigation and Suppression Division at Suvarnabhumi Airport under the Customs Department received intelligence reports about a suspected drug smuggler planning to use Thailand as a transit route. Officials coordinated with immigration authorities at Suvarnabhumi Airport to conduct a joint inspection.

The suspect, identified as Guntars, a 71-year-old Latvian national, arrived from Laos on flight TG571 at 3:20 PM on June 22, with plans to connect to Malaysia on flight TG417 departing at 4:40 PM.

During the baggage search, authorities discovered a red canvas bag containing what appeared to be a camping stretcher. Hidden within the metal tubes of the stretcher frame were 47 packages of a sausage-like substance wrapped in brown plastic. Laboratory testing confirmed the material was heroin weighing approximately 3 kilograms.

During initial questioning, the suspect provided no cooperation. Speaking only Russian with no English communication ability, investigators suspect he collected the drugs from Laos, noting that while he had no checked luggage on his outbound journey, he returned with a 9-kilogram checked bag.

The suspect has been transferred to the Investigation and Suppression Division of the Customs Department for prosecution.

Police Major General Choengron Rimpadee, Commander of Immigration Division 2, stated that operations involve coordination and support with related agencies to prevent and suppress criminal activities, particularly targeting foreigners who use Thailand as an origin, transit, or destination point for transnational crimes.

BEDO continues to work with UNDP as a strategic partner in the project’s execution.

She emphasized that BEDO’s core mission is to promote the sustainable use of biodiversity to strengthen local economies, especially those with direct access to natural ecosystems. Biodiversity-based tourism serves as a key service-sector strategy to generate income for communities. BEDO’s initiative aims to integrate tourism—a major sector in Thailand’s economy—into grassroots economic development by focusing on biodiversity as a key selling point. The pilot sites are in Kui Buri, Sam Roi Yot, and Pran Buri districts of Prachuap Khiri Khan province.

image1 30

“This innovative approach to tourism development requires insight, experience, and guidance from all relevant stakeholders to address both opportunities and limitations. It must balance ecological conservation with economic sustainability for local communities. Today’s forum provides a platform for sharing ideas, perspectives, and best practices. BEDO will utilize the outcomes to work collaboratively with provincial authorities, local governments, community networks, and tourism businesses,” Ms. Suwanna concluded.

Thailand Tourism Faces Middle East and Cambodia Challenges

BANGKOKThailand’s tourism industry is confronting new challenges as Chinese tourist arrivals decline due to negative news coverage about scam operations, while the latest crisis involves strained relations with Cambodia following multiple border checkpoint closures, compounded by escalating tensions between Israel and Iran with US intervention.

Middle East Conflict Impact

Tourism and Sports Minister Sorawong Thienthong reported that the Israel-Iran conflict escalated to direct combat from June 13, 2025, raising concerns among Middle Eastern and Western nations about potential regional war that could impact global economic stability, including Thailand.

The Foreign Market Analysis Department has closely monitored the situation and projected significant impacts on Israeli tourist arrivals to Thailand, particularly severe effects expected from late June through the third quarter of 2025 due to direct combat in the region, with Q3 potentially declining by 29%. The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) has conducted a preliminary impact assessment divided into 2 scenarios:

Scenario 1: Recovery within Q3 2025

  • Overall annual growth rate: 24% increase
  • Expected Israeli tourists: approximately 350,000 visitors
  • Tourist loss: approximately 77,000 visitors from the projected 52% growth trend (427,000 visitors compared to 2024)

Scenario 2: Extended conflict without negotiated ceasefire

  • Severe impact expected for 6 months from mid-June to November 2025
  • Recovery to normal travel patterns in December (5-6 months recovery time, similar to Israel-Hamas conflict)
  • Overall annual growth rate: 19% increase
  • Expected visitors: approximately 335,000
  • Tourist loss: approximately 92,000 visitors from the original 52% growth projection (427,000 visitors compared to 2024)

Despite Q3 2025 contractions in both scenarios, overall annual growth rates are not expected to decline compared to 2024, due to accumulated 76% increase in Israeli tourists during the first five months of 2025. The conflict’s primary effect will be slowing growth momentum rather than causing actual decline.

Iran Market Analysis

Iranian tourist arrivals in the first five months of 2025 (January-May) totaled 28,259 visitors, down from 28,786 in the same period last year. Total Iranian tourists in 2024 numbered 64,962.

Mahan Air operates direct flights to Thailand serving Bangkok and Phuket routes with 6 weekly flights total. Direct flight services from Iran will end in June 2025, with airspace closures resulting in the loss of 1,800 passenger seats weekly.

Historical data from 2018, when the US imposed sanctions on Iran to curtail nuclear activities, showed Iranian tourist numbers to Thailand immediately dropped 60%. Based on this precedent, Iranian tourists in late 2025 may decline up to 60% due to war factors and absence of direct flights from July-December 2025.

Temple

Cambodia Border Tensions

Following adjusted operating hours at various checkpoints connecting to Cambodia since June 7, average daily tourist numbers decreased 43% compared to the previous week. The domestic market remains largely unaffected, though both the TAT’s Northeastern regional office and Ho Chi Minh office continue close monitoring.

From January-May 2025, Cambodian tourist arrivals totaled 197,658 visitors, down 14% from the same period in 2024.

Cambodian media reported on Sunday night that the Cambodian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation on June 22 advised Cambodian citizens “to refrain from non-essential travel to Thailand amid rising tensions between the two countries” and “to exercise caution,” citing the current strained state of relations between Cambodia and Thailand as the reason behind the travel advisory

Dutch Tourist Found Dead in Ayutthaya Hotel Room

Rescuers, forensic officers, and medical personnel inspect the body of a Dutch man at a hotel room in Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya on June 22, 2025.

AYUTTHAYA — A 54-year-old Dutch tourist was found dead in his hotel room in Thailand’s ancient capital city of Ayutthaya on Sunday afternoon, just as he was scheduled to check out after a three-day stay.

The deceased, identified as Ronald, was discovered by hotel housekeeping staff after he failed to check out on time. Staff used a master key to enter his room, where they found him dead.

Police from Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya Station responded to the scene on Sunday, June 22, along with forensic investigators, medical personnel from Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya Hospital, and representatives from a charitable foundation.

The victim was found shirtless, wearing only black shorts, lying beside his bed. Investigators noted a severe laceration on his left arm that exposed bone, with blood stains found throughout the room including on the floor, bed, and in the bathroom bathtub.

Authorities discovered several items during their investigation:

  • The victim’s mobile phone placed on the bathtub edge
  • A fruit knife approximately 10 centimeters long found in the drained bathtub
  • On the dressing table: passport, medication, yellow powder, and a letter written in English
  • A half-empty bottle of alcohol and soft drinks near the body

Based on initial investigations and witness interviews, police believe the deceased may have been under stress and harmed himself after consuming alcohol. This assessment was supported by the discovery of the English-language letter.

Security camera footage from before and after the incident showed no other individuals entering or leaving the victim’s room, according to preliminary reviews.

The body has been sent to the Forensic Science Institute in Pathum Thani Province for a detailed autopsy to determine the exact cause of death. Dutch embassy officials have been notified of the incident.

The investigation remains ongoing as authorities work to piece together the final hours of the Dutch national’s stay in the historic city of Ayutthaya.

US Strikes 3 Iranian Nuclear Sites, Inserting Itself Into Israel’s War with Iran

President Donald Trump speaks from the East Room of the White House in Washington, Saturday, June 21, 2025, after the U.S. military struck three Iranian nuclear and military sites, directly joining Israel's effort to decapitate the country's nuclear program, as Vice President JD Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth listen. (Carlos Barria/Pool via AP)

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (AP) — The United States attacked three sites in Iran early Sunday, inserting itself into Israel’s war aimed at destroying the country’s nuclear program in a risky gambit to weaken a longtime foe that prompted fears of a wider regional conflict as Tehran accused Washington of launching “a dangerous war.”

U.S. President Donald Trump asserted that Iran’s key nuclear sites were “completely and fully obliterated” in an address to the nation from the White House. There was no independent damage assessment.

The Atomic Energy Organization of Iran confirmed that attacks took place on its Fordo, Isfahan and Natanz sites, but it insisted that its nuclear program will not be stopped. Iran and the U.N. nuclear watchdog said there were no immediate signs of radioactive contamination at the three locations following the strikes.

It was not clear whether the U.S. would continue attacking Iran alongside its ally Israel, which has been engaged in a war with Iran for nine days. Trump acted without congressional authorization, and he warned that there would be additional strikes if Tehran retaliated against U.S. forces.

“There will either be peace or there will be tragedy for Iran,” he said.

Iran’s Foreign Ministry said Washington had “betrayed diplomacy” with the military strikes in support of Israel, and said now “the U.S. has itself launched a dangerous war against Iran.”

“The Islamic Republic of Iran reserves its right to resist with full force against U.S. military aggression and the crimes committed by this rogue regime, and to defend Iran’s security and national interests,” the ministry said in a lengthy statement.

Hours after the American attacks, Iran’s paramilitary Revolutionary Guard said it launched a barrage of 40 missiles at Israel, including its Khorramshahr-4, which can carry multiple warheads. Israeli authorities reported that more than 80 people suffered mostly minor injuries, and that there were reports of damage in the cities of Haifa and Tel Aviv, and along the coast.

Following the Iranian barrage, Israel’s military said it had “swiftly neutralized” the Iranian missile launchers that had fired, and that it had begun a series of strikes toward military targets in western Iran.

The US helped Israel strike Iran’s toughest nuclear site

Iran has maintained that its nuclear program is for peaceful purposes only, and U.S. intelligence agencies have assessed that Tehran is not actively pursuing a bomb. However, Trump and Israeli leaders have argued that Iran could quickly assemble a nuclear weapon, making it an imminent threat.

The decision to directly involve the U.S. in the war comes after more than a week of strikes by Israel that significantly degraded Iran’s air defenses and offensive missile capabilities, and damaged its nuclear enrichment facilities. But U.S. and Israeli officials have said American B-2 stealth bombers and the 30,000-pound (13,500-kilogram) bunker-buster bomb that only they have been configured to carry offered the best chance of destroying heavily fortified sites connected to the Iranian nuclear program buried deep underground.

Trump appears to have made the calculation — at the prodding of Israeli officials and many Republican lawmakers — that Israel’s operation had softened the ground and presented a perhaps unparalleled opportunity to set back Iran’s nuclear program, perhaps permanently.

“We have completed our very successful attack on the three Nuclear sites in Iran, including Fordow, Natanz, and Esfahan,” Trump said in a post on social media, using common alternate spellings for two of the sites. “All planes are now outside of Iran air space. A full payload of BOMBS was dropped on the primary site, Fordow. All planes are safely on their way home.”

Trump added in a later post: “This is an HISTORIC MOMENT FOR THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, ISRAEL, AND THE WORLD. IRAN MUST NOW AGREE TO END THIS WAR. THANK YOU!”

Israel announced Sunday that it had closed its airspace to both inbound and outbound flights in the wake of the U.S. attacks.

The White House and Pentagon did not immediately elaborate on the operation. U.S. military leaders are scheduled to provide a briefing at 8 a.m. Eastern.

The attack used bunker-buster bombs on Iran’s Fordo nuclear fuel enrichment plant that is built deep into a mountain, a U.S. official said. The weapons are designed to penetrate the ground before exploding. The official spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss military operations.

In addition, U.S. submarines launched about 30 Tomahawk missiles, according to another U.S. official who also spoke on condition of anonymity.

The International Atomic Energy Agency wrote on X that there has been “no increase in off-site radiation levels” after the strikes but that it would continue to monitor the situation.

Trump’s turn to strikes departs from some previous statements

The decision to attack was a risky one for Trump, who won the White House partially on the promise of keeping America out of costly foreign conflicts and scoffed at the value of American interventionism.

But Trump also vowed that he would not allow Iran to obtain a nuclear weapon, and he had initially hoped that the threat of force would bring the country’s leaders to give up its nuclear program peacefully.

For months, Trump said he was dedicated to a diplomatic push to persuade Iran to give up its nuclear ambitions. And he twice — in April and again in late May — persuaded Netanyahu to hold off on military action against Iran and give diplomacy more time.

After Israel began striking Iran, Trump went from publicly expressing hope that the moment could be a “second chance” for Iran to make a deal to delivering explicit threats on Khamenei and making calls for Tehran’s unconditional surrender.

He has bristled at criticism from some supporters who have suggested that further U.S. involvement would be a betrayal to those who were drawn to his promise to end U.S. involvement in expensive and endless wars.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu praised Trump’s decision to attack in a video message directed at the American president.

“Your bold decision to target Iran’s nuclear facilities, with the awesome and righteous might of the United States, will change history,” he said. Netanyahu said the U.S. “has done what no other country on earth could do.”

Fears of a broader war

U.N. Secretary-General Antonio Guterres called the strikes a “dangerous escalation,” as world leaders began chiming in with calls for diplomacy.

“There is a growing risk that this conflict could rapidly get out of control — with catastrophic consequences for civilians, the region and the world,” he said in a statement.

Iranian-backed Houthi rebels in Yemen, who had threatened to resume attacks on U.S. vessels in the Red Sea if the Trump administration joined Israel’s military campaign, called on other Muslim nations to form “one front against the Zionist-American arrogance.”

Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei had warned the United States on Wednesday that strikes targeting the Islamic Republic will “result in irreparable damage for them.” And Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei declared “any American intervention would be a recipe for an all-out war in the region.”

The Israeli military said Saturday it was preparing for the possibility of a lengthy war, while Iran’s foreign minister warned before the U.S. attack that American military involvement “would be very, very dangerous for everyone.”

Israeli strikes on Iran have killed at least 865 people and wounded 3,396 others, according to the Washington-based group Human Rights Activists. The group said of those dead, it identified 363 civilians and 215 security force personnel.

Trump’s decision for direct U.S. military intervention comes after his administration made an unsuccessful two-month push — including with high-level, direct negotiations with the Iranians — aimed at persuading Tehran to curb its nuclear program.

During his previous administration, Trump pulled the U.S. unilaterally out of the 2015 nuclear deal with Iran, prompting Tehran to begin enriching uranium to higher levels and restrict the access of IAEA inspectors to its facilities.

Two Things To Keep In Mind Amidst Thai Political Crisis

Thailand's Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra, talks to Commander of the 2nd Army Area Lieutenant General Boonsin Padklang, left, during a meeting with soldiers at Ubonratchathani province, northeast of Bangkok, Friday, June 20, 2025. (Government Spokesman Office via AP)

To say that Thailand is entering treacherous waters is an understatement. Depending on how the Paetongtarn Shinawatra government and people handle the situation in the coming days and weeks, Thailand could see its relationship with its neighbour, Cambodia, regressing by decades, or could face a military coup – or both.

Ultranationalists and anti-government protest leaders announced earlier this week that their major protest, which is expected to be protracted, starts on June 28 onwards.

The Thai Prime Minister, Paetongtarn Shinawatra, is now a sitting duck PM after the controversial leaked audio clip of her conversation with the former Cambodian PM and Senate President and the withdrawal of the Bhumjai Thai Party, the second biggest government party, from the coalition.

As of today, June 22, the PM is adamant that she will neither resign nor dissolve the House and is working hard to bring in defecting MPs from some opposition party to shore up the ailing administration.

It’s understandable why many went ballistic upon hearing the 17-minute clip because the Thai PM spoke more like a little girl, almost begging “uncle” Hun Sen to help more because ultranationalist Thais and anti-Thaksinites are telling her to become PM in Cambodia instead. Paetoongtarn almost committed a huge blunder by saying the “popular” Second Army Region Commander Lt Gen Boonsin Padklang was on the “opposite side” of us, (Paetong and Hun Sen). Paetongtarn’s public expression of contrition was clearly not accepted by ultranationalist conservatives and they now want her out, or a military coup to oust her, and a tougher stance against Cambodia on the border disputes and economic front.

In that damning leaked audio clip that shook the PM and the Pheu Thai government more than an 8-Richter earthquake could, Hun Sen clearly stated that if Thailand reopens its checkpoints as usual, Cambodia is ready to follow through and adjust within 5 hours.

Patriotic Thais who still possess sound reasoning and common sense should demand that the Thai government reopen all the borders as normal to see if Hun Sen will keep his word because both nations stand to lose more than they will gain by escalating the tit-for-tat border rows.

Last night, the 2nd Army Area closed the Sai Taku border trade checkpoint in Buriram’s Ban Kruat district, “for public safety.”

The closure was signed by Lt Gen Boonsin.

This morning, June 22, Khmer Times reports that Cambodian PM Hun Manet has announced the decision to “permanently close two border checkpoints in Oddar Meanchey  province in response to, what he described as, the Thai army’s repeated unilateral decisions to shut down access points without prior consultation or coordination with Cambodia.”

This was followed just hours after by Boonsin announcing that he will close two more borders soon. It seems the PM has little or no control now over the army along the Thai-Cambodia border, and a Chinese Xinhua news correspondent, Lin Hao, noted on X following the news item from Khaosod English that “The Cambodian measure was announced by the [Cambodian] PM. The Thai measure was announced by a frontline army commander.”

The adjustments and closures of checkpoints by both parties have almost no benefit, are unnecessary and detrimental to both countries’ economy and diplomatic relations.

Innocent traders and farmers on both sides are now affected with the Thai side, for example, unable to move 30 tonnes of fruits into Cambodia, according to the news report yesterday, while the Thai side tightened the export of Cambodian tapioca into Thailand and casinos on the Cambodian side of the border are also being affected. Overall, it only worsens the situation between the two countries by day and puts Thailand at risk of extra-constitutional powers interfering in the end.

I understand that the current “lame-duck” government may no longer be able to control the border military, particularly, but we must try to preserve the democratic system and help defuse the escalating Thai-Cambodian conflict and the risk of another military coup in Thailand.

With this big picture in mind, Thais who may hate Paetongtarn to the guts or regard her as a traitor should step back and reflect, and look at the overall picture of possible scenarios, and help defuse both bombs first.

As for the childish bickering about who started the Thai-Cambodia border conflicts first, as Hun Sen said in the clip (claiming Thailand started it), I believe it’s pointless to argue about who began it and where the true genesis lies. What we can do and should do now is to demand and try to reduce the conditions for deeper conflicts, otherwise, it will play right into the hands of pro-coup demonstrators who favour extra-constitutional means of solving a political crisis.

At this crucial time, there are more important matters to take into consideration than whether PM Paetongtarn survives or not and that is to ensure that the democratic system is intact and that we don’t unnecessarily deepen the Thai-Cambodia conflict.

Tourist police on Koh Phangan raided a cannabis shop in the Pantip Market area Thursday evening following complaints that the establishment was secretly doubling as a bar selling hookah or shisha to visiting tourists.

During the raid, officers found two Myanmar women working at the shop. Sandar, 41, was serving water and hookah to customers inside the establishment, while Thandar, 28, was handling customer service and cash transactions at the counter. Emotional Arrest Scene

Sandar burst into tears during the inspection, as she had previously been arrested by the same police unit and feared being sent back to Myanmar. Officers had to console her before proceeding with questioning.

Sandar admitted to working at the shop for four months, earning 3,000 baht per week. Her duties included lighting charcoal for hookah, preparing shisha liquid in containers for customers, serving water and food, and cleaning the shop.

Thandar confessed to working as a cashier, taking orders and handling cash transactions. She said hookah prices varied based on flavor and quantity chosen by customers. She claimed never to have met the Russian shop owner but transferred daily sales revenue to his account. The shop earned 10,000-15,000 baht ($305-460) per day from customers.

Korean Loan Sharks Jump from Chonburi Villa During Police Raid

Korean
Police raid a luxury villa in Chonburi, discovering 22 South Koreans running an illegal lending operation, June 21, 2025.

CHONBURIWhat began as a rescue mission to save an alleged kidnapping victim turned into a major bust when Chonburi police raided a luxury villa on Saturday and discovered 21 South Koreans and one Chinese operating an international illegal lending ring.

The operation was launched after the South Korean Embassy in Thailand contacted authorities reporting that a South Korean national had been kidnapped and was being held at a villa in Na Kluea subdistrict, Bang Lamung district, Chonburi province.

At 2.30 p.m. on June 21, more than 50 officers from tourist police and Bang Lamung police station surrounded the two-story detached house, which sits on over 90 square meters and is equipped with CCTV cameras around the perimeter.

When police identified themselves and requested to search the premises, more than 20 South Koreans inside panicked and fled in different directions. During the chaotic escape, one South Korean man jumped from the second floor, suffering critical injuries when he hit the ground. The injured man, identified as Mr. Jae, 30, was rushed to hospital by emergency responders.

Three other South Koreans who fled through the back of the house were pursued and apprehended by police. In total, 21 suspects, including one Chinese, were detained and brought back for questioning.

High-Tech Operation Uncovered

Inside the villa, police discovered what appeared to be a sophisticated operation center containing:

  • Over 30 desktop computers and laptops
  • More than 40 mobile phones
  • 2 internet routers

All equipment was seized as evidence, and forensic officers from Chonburi’s Evidence Division 2 collected DNA samples and fingerprints from the devices.

Police Tourist Division Senior Sergeant Major Tor-lap Tinamaat explained that the South Korean suspects claimed the computer equipment and mobile phones were used to run an illegal lending business targeting victims in South Korea. They used the luxury villa as their operational headquarters, conducting business through internet-based phone calls via TP LINK systems.

Police found a Korean-language whiteboard detailing investment scams promising returns up to 500 million won ($365,000 USD) and romance scam messages used to deceive victims into transferring money. Two South Koreans were found to have entered Thailand illegally.

Investigations suggest the group recently relocated from the Cambodia border area after government pressure, establishing their base inside Thailand. Initially, police have charged the suspects with being members of a criminal organization with illegal objectives, commonly known as forming a criminal gang.

Neighbor Reveals Disturbing Details

A local resident, 26-year-old Man, provided crucial information about the villa’s activities. He revealed that South Koreans and Chinese nationals had been renting the property for over four months.

“I often heard people arguing and screaming, sounds like someone being tortured,” Man told police. “At first I didn’t know what was going on in that house, but today suddenly I saw Koreans jumping over to my side of the property and running away frantically until police came to investigate.”
