Record-Breaking Growth and Key Business Drivers

Mr. Shubhodeep Das, CEO of Hylife Group, highlighted the company’s stellar 2024 performance, which saw its revenue grow from 168.16 million baht in 2023 to 420 million baht in 2024. He attributed this success to a diversified business model, which allows the company to mitigate risks and maintain financial stability through its expertise in real estate, asset management, and manufacturing. Strong growth in manufacturing was another key driver, particularly for Hylife Global Food and Dr. Hygiene Medical Products. Hylife Global Food saw its revenue surge from 86.40 million baht in 2023 to 187.09 million baht in 2024, while Dr. Hygiene Medical Products experienced an increase from 23.21 million baht to 43.30 million baht, reflecting the rising demand for medical supplies. Additionally, the recovery of Thailand’s real estate sector played a significant role in the company’s revenue growth, demonstrating its ability to develop projects that meet evolving market demands.

To sustain this momentum, Hylife Group is actively exploring new investment opportunities to introduce additional business units, with the goal of driving long-term revenue while encouraging sustainable growth.

Growth Strategy for 2025

Mr. Das outlined three core strategies for achieving Hylife Group’s 2025 revenue target of 1.217 billion baht. Strengthening its core businesses remains a priority, with plans to expand in the food, real estate, and medical product industries while integrating asset management into its financial platform. Workforce development is also a key focus, as the company aims to provide competitive benefits, continuous skill training, and career growth opportunities for employees. In addition, Hylife Group is committed to building brand recognition and community impact by supporting corporate social responsibility initiatives that enhance the quality of life in the communities where it operates.

Commitment to Sustainability and Innovation

Hylife Group continues to emphasise sustainable business practices. The company is actively supporting initiatives such as the Hylife Hackathon and Hylife’s Innovation Excellence Awards, both of which encourage innovation in tackling social and environmental challenges. These programs provide a platform for entrepreneurs, innovators, and young talents to develop solutions that promote sustainability, resource efficiency, and community well-being.

Positive Outlook for Thailand’s Economy

Mr. Das remains optimistic about Thailand’s economic prospects in 2025, citing tourism, domestic consumption, and infrastructure investments as key growth drivers. These factors are expected to have a positive impact on Hylife Group’s core sectors, particularly in food and medical products. He emphasised that the company sees expansion opportunities both domestically and internationally, with a strong focus on sustainable development, innovation, and leveraging digital platforms to enhance product and service value.

As Hylife Group moves forward, it aims to strengthen its leadership position by achieving an unprecedented revenue milestone of 1.217 billion baht, marking a remarkable 291% growth by the end of 2025.

Inspired by nature and the movement of all things, her art embodies fluidity and transformation. Ingrid Haubrich conveys this theme through two main series: “Tides” –   A reflection of water’s power and the currents of change. Through her signature technique of layering color and texture, the series captures the ebb and flow of the ocean, the impermanence of life, and the purity of renewal—much like the Songkran ritual, where water symbolizes joy and new beginnings. “Spring Break Series” – A vibrant tribute to spring’s renewal and the rebirth of nature. Delicate petals in motion across the canvas evoke the fleeting yet breathtaking beauty of flowers, ever-changing with the cycle of time. This exhibition presents a world where nature’s elements and artistic expression merge into a celebration of life, transformation, and cultural tradition.

French Fugitive Linked to Deadly Prison Break Arrested in Phuket

Phuket Immigration Police officers ask a 24-year-old French national suspected of involvement in a violent prison break operation in France to present identification documents after his arrest at Phuket Airport on March 26, 2025.

PHUKET — Thai authorities have apprehended a key suspect involved in a deadly prison break in France who had fled to Thailand’s resort island of Phuket on March 26.

The Royal Thai Police and Immigration Bureau, acting on intelligence from the French Embassy in Thailand, successfully tracked down and arrested 24-year-old French national identified only as “Mr. Adonis” at Phuket International Airport.

According to officials, the suspect has confessed to participating in a violent prison break operation in France that resulted in the death of prison guards. Following the incident, he evaded an Interpol arrest warrant by fleeing to Phuket, where he had been hiding.

Immigration officers explain the escape route chart of Mr. Adonis, suspect in the prison break and murder of prison guards in France on May 14, 2024, before fleeing to Phuket and being arrested, during a press conference in Bangkok on March 27, 2025.

The case refers to what Thai authorities described as a shocking incident that occurred in France last year. International media reports indicate the prison break took place in May 2024 in the Eure region of northern France, when six armed assailants ambushed a prison transport vehicle at a toll booth. The attackers rammed the van and opened fire, killing two prison guards and seriously injuring three others.

The primary escapee was reportedly Mohamed Amra, known as “The Fly,” who was being transported back to prison from a court appearance in Normandy. French Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin described the subsequent manhunt as “unprecedented,” noting it was the country’s first fatal attack on prison staff in more than 30 years.

While Thai officials are moving to process the case quickly, formal extradition procedures remain unclear. According to information on the website of the Royal Thai Embassy in Paris, an extradition treaty between Thailand and France is currently under consideration and still being drafted.

Despite this legal technicality, at a Bangkok Immigration Bureau press conference today, Deputy Commissioner Police Major General Pantana Nutchanart stated that Adonis will be sent back to France as soon as possible.

The investigation revealed that Adonis entered Thailand through Phuket Immigration on February 8, 2025, before France issued an arrest warrant and before Interpol issued a Red Notice. The suspect had been hiding in the Kamala and Patong areas of Kathu district, Phuket.

Adonis had originally been granted permission to stay in the kingdom until April 8. Following the arrest, officials will now revoke his visa and coordinate with the French Embassy for further legal proceedings.

57 Laotians, Vietnamese Caught in Bangkok Karaoke Bar Raids

Officers arrest male waiters, known as "bar hosts," who served and entertained female customers at Home Karaoke, described as a women-only hostess lounge in Bangkok on March 26, 2025.

BANGKOK — Immigration authorities arrested 57 foreign nationals, both women and men, working illegally and a Thai employer during coordinated raids on 10 karaoke establishments across Bangkok late Tuesday night.

The operation, led by Immigration Bureau 1 Commander Police Major General Prasart Khemaprasit, targeted venues in three main areas known for inexpensive karaoke bars: Klongtoei, Romklao, and Thonburi.

According to officials, the raids are part of a broader enforcement initiative ordered by Immigration Bureau Commissioner Police Lieutenant General Phanumas Boonyalak to crack down on illegal foreign workers and visa overstayers throughout Thailand.

More than 40 immigration officers participated in the late-night operation on March 25. Authorities described most establishments as small and dimly lit, with some featuring private VIP rooms equipped with stages and karaoke equipment.

Thailand Needs New Strategy Amid Trump Tariffs, Says Economist

tariffs

BANGKOK —  The head of Thailand’s National Economic and Social Development Council (NESDC) has warned that the country is likely to be hit by new tariffs from Donald Trump as fears grow of a looming trade war that could impact both this year and next.

He emphasized that Thailand is facing complex economic challenges and that the “next step” should focus on investing in human capital and agricultural technology, as well as increasing competitiveness in the tourism and healthcare sectors.

Dr. Supavud Saicheua, Chairman of NESDC, delivered a keynote speech at the seminar “Prachachat Forum: NEXT MOVE Thailand 2025” hosted by Prachachat Business on March 26. He said that in addition to Thailand’s ongoing challenges, such as slow economic growth, declining competitiveness, low agricultural productivity, an aging society and shortages of labor and energy, a new problem will emerge on April 2, 2025.

The Trump administration is expected to announce reciprocal tariffs targeting various countries, including Thailand, on that date.

next move prachachat
“Prachachat Forum: NEXT MOVE Thailand 2025,” hosted by Prachachat Business, takes place at Siam Kempinski Hotel Bangkok, on March 26, 2025.

Significant Impact on Thailand

He pointed out that the US Federal Reserve has already revised its forecast for economic growth in 2025 downwards from 2.1 percent to 1.7 percent. If the world’s largest economy and the fastest growing among the industrialized nations has to lower its expectations, the impact on Thailand is likely to be significant.

The full impact of Trump’s proposed tariffs remains to be seen. A look back to the 1930s, when the US passed the Smoot-Hawley Tariff Act and imposed across-the-board tariffs of 20, resulted in a two-thirds drop in global trade, about 60 percent. Although a repeat of this scale is unlikely due to today’s more sophisticated monetary policy and better economic conditions, this episode serves as a historical warning.

Dr. Supavud stressed that Thailand will inevitably face impacts this year and next and must manage the situation as effectively as possible.

Peter Navarro

He also referred to Peter Navarro, Trump’s trade advisor, who has commented on Thailand in various contexts as part of the “Agenda 2025” policy document. The US has already worked out scenarios to calculate how imposing tariffs on Thailand, at the same level that Thailand imposes on the US, could reduce the US trade deficit.

“Simply put, the U.S. has done its homework,” Dr. Supavud said. “Navarro seems to prefer that the US impose more tariffs on Thailand instead of asking Thailand to lower its tariffs. That way, the US can raise more revenue, which it believes could help reduce the budget deficit.”

Dr. Supavud expressed concern about the risks that US trade policy poses to Thailand, especially given that exports to the US account for nearly 20 percent of Thailand’s total exports or about 9 percent of the country’s GDP.

Longstanding Challenges Persist

He added that Thailand’s older problems remain unresolved, in particular, persistently slow economic growth and long-term supply-side issues. Essentially, the issue is how Thailand can expand its production capacity.

thai
File photo taken on Jan. 24, 2022 shows a view of the Laem Chabang Port in Chonburi Province, Thailand. (Xinhua/Wang Teng

One major concern is the aging population. There are currently 12.5 million Thais over the age of 60. Of these, only a third are employed and 45 percent of this group have no savings. The remaining 55 percent have on average less than 100,000 baht ($2,950) in savings. It is predicted that this aging group will grow to more than 18 million in the next 15 years.

Research shows that economic growth typically stems 15–30 percent from labor expansion, 20–35 percent from investment, and 40–60 percent from technological advancement. Therefore, technology will play a critical role in future growth, making it essential for Thailand to invest in human development and innovation, especially given the declining size of the labor force.

Dr. Supavud recommended that Thailand needs to invest in agricultural technology in addition to developing human capital. Currently, agriculture accounts for only 8.6 percent of GDP, but it takes up 30 percent of the country’s labor force, 45 percent of its land and nearly 70 percent of its water resources. The imbalance, he noted, is glaring.

In terms of competitiveness, Thailand ranks fifth in agricultural exports to China and has comparative advantages in food and agricultural goods. He urged Thailand to build on this strength as competition in the industrial sector would be far more difficult. In addition to agriculture, Thailand also has the potential to be a leader in tourism and medical tourism, sectors that should be continuously expanded.

Thailand on China’s List of “High-Risk Countries” on Uyghur-Xinjiang Issues, US Researcher Told FCCT Panel

Adrian Zenz, Director of Chinese Studies at Washington DC-based Victims of Communism Memorial Foundation

BANGKOK  — An American researcher on Chinese Studies told a panel discussion at the Foreign Correspondents Club of Thailand on Wednesday night that Thailand is listed by China as a “high-risk country” when it comes to Uyghurs and Xinjiang-related issues.

Some Uyghurs who travelled to Thailand on a valid travel document were arrested upon returning to China due to concerns of them being exposed to extremist ideology while in Thailand.

“Those returned from Thailand faced re-education,” said Adrian Zenz, Director of Chinese Studies at Washington DC-based Victims of Communism Memorial Foundation, a non-profit anti-communism organization set up by an Act of US Congress in 1993.

Zenz , who spoke through zoom, cited leaked internal documents from Xinjiang Police and said four Uyghurs men have faced such predicament over the years. Thailand is among the 26 countries, which include Malaysia, Indonesia and the United Arab Emirates.

“Therefore, for those returning from abroad, catch whoever returns, detain whoever is caught, imprison whoever is detained, and let none slip through,” part of the documents which were translated into English read. “For those whose circumstances are unclear, perform re-education, but they must not be released.”

Zenz was a panelist at the FCCT event on the Thai Government’s tour of China’s Xinjiang region after the deportation of 40 Uyghurs. “This is the so-called “pre-crime”, not actual crime,” said Zenz, adding that one Uyghur man faced re-education when returning to Xinjiang simply because he went to Thailand and Dubai for tourism in 2017 for “crime of preparing to carry out terrorist activity.”  Another, he added, ended up in pre-empted detention because the man received a phone call from Thailand after returning home.

The US Embassy in Bangkok sponsored a dozen of Thai journalists to the symposium by paying for the entrance fees to the FCCT panel discussion on Wednesday night. A Chinese diplomat at the Chinese Embassy’s News and Public Diplomacy was contacted on Thursday morning for comment but there was no reply as of press time.
