DAEGU, South Korea — A 107-year-old Thai athlete has won two gold medals at the 2026 World Masters Athletics Championships in Daegu, South Korea, while breaking his own world record in the discus throw.
Sawang Chanpram, competing in the men’s 95-and-over discus throw on 27 August, was the only athlete in his age category. He followed the competition rules and used the same 1kg discus as other competitors.
Sawang recorded a best throw of 7.59 meters, breaking his own world record of 7.50 meters set at the 2025 World Masters Athletics Championships in Taiwan.
He returned to competition on 29 August in the men’s 100-and-over javelin throw. Again the only competitor in his age category, Sawang secured his second gold medal with a throw of 10.04 meters.
After the competition, the mayor of Daegu presented Sawang with a special award recognizing him as the world’s oldest track and field athlete.
