BANGKOK – Officers from Thung Maha Mek Police Station arrested Mr. Wang, a 30-year-old Chinese national, on May 19 after he damaged several items inside his room on the 15th floor of a hotel on Sathorn South Road.
Mr. Wang confessed that he had been drinking heavily from 3:00 a.m. to 7:00 a.m. on May 18. The total value of the damaged property was 150,800 baht.
In addition, he used a lighter to set fire to the front of the room door and the plastic button set for ringing the doorbell.
The officers charged him with arson of another person’s property, which is a dwelling where people live, causing damage to property, and consuming alcohol until behaving disruptively or being unable to control oneself while in a public place.
According to Thai law regarding offences relating to causing public danger, Section 217 states that whoever sets fire to things belonging to another person shall be imprisoned for six months to seven years or fined between one thousand Baht and fourteen thousand Baht.
