CHIANG MAI — A Chinese couple’s trip to Chiang Mai turned tragic when a large tree fell on the cable bridge zipline they were walking on, causing both to fall from a height. The wife lost her life in the incident.
On August 1, the Erawan Rescue Center team transported two injured tourists to the hospital following an accident where a tree fell on a suspension bridge at a zipline attraction in Chiang Mai. The incident was reported at 2:50 p.m., about 20 minutes after it occurred.
Police Colonel Thongchai Kannika, Superintendent of Doi Saket Police Station, revealed that the Chinese tourist victims were a married couple who came to play on the zipline at Jungle Flight Chiang Mai in Moo 2, Thep Sadet Subdistrict, Doi Saket District, Chiang Mai.
Witnesses at the scene reported that as the couple was returning from the last station to the office area, a tree in the vicinity fell onto the cable bridge they were crossing. This caused Mrs. Jing, 44, and Mr. Liu, 46, to fall from the 15-meter high cable bridge onto the ground.
After the incident, rescue workers transported them to Doi Saket Hospital. It was later reported that Mrs. Jing died while being transported to the hospital. Mr. Liu suffered fractures to his arms and legs and was transferred to Chiang Mai Ram Hospital.
It was reported that both tourists had taken out life insurance with Jungle Flight Company Limited for this trip. Local administrative officials and police officers from Doi Saket Police Station will investigate to determine the exact cause of the accident.
Later, Chiang Mai Tourist Police officers visited the injured at Chiang Mai Ram Hospital. They inquired about the condition of the injured and the details of the incident.
Additionally, they held a meeting with doctors from Chiang Mai Ram Hospital, Ms. Yang Jiong, Deputy Consul-General of the People’s Republic of China in Chiang Mai, foreign affairs coordination officers, and Tourist Assistance Center (TAC) staff.
Initially, it was reported that the couple had tourist accident insurance coverage of 500,000 baht for injuries and 1,000,000 baht for death. TAC officers will assist with the process.
It was also learned that the two tourists had brought their son to Thailand, but he was not injured in the incident. He will be cared for until his father recovers.
