Canadian Tourist Dies In Tragic Accident at Pattaya Resort

PATTAYAA 66-year-old Canadian tourist died instantly after slipping on stairs and hitting his head on a traditional Thai dancer statue at a resort in Pattaya’s Jomtien Beach area on Wednesday.

Police Lieutenant Puttarak Sonkham and rescue workers responded to the incident at approximately 3:30 p.m., December 4. The victim, identified only as Mr. Giroud, had been staying at the resort since December 2 and was scheduled to check out on December 9.

According to resort staff witnesses, the accident occurred when the victim returned from what appeared to be an exercise session. He slipped while climbing the three-step entrance stairs, fatally striking his head on a decorative Thai classical dancer statue.

Police investigators searched the victim’s ninth-floor room, discovering three pieces of luggage containing personal belongings, a laptop, and medical supplies including prescription medications and syringes, which were collected as evidence.

The body has been transferred to Bang Lamung Hospital for autopsy. Police are coordinating with the Canadian Embassy to contact the deceased’s relatives. Resort management noted that CCTV footage was temporarily unavailable due to staff absence during the extended holiday period.

A forensics team is conducting a detailed investigation of the scene and analyzing the medical supplies found in the victim’s room. Police are awaiting autopsy results to confirm the exact cause of death.
