PATTAYA — Thai Police have issued a warning to a homeowner in Pattaya after receiving noise complaints about his pet lioness’s roaring which has been disturbing local residents.
Residents of Soi Phra Tamnak between Soi 5-6 filed complaints with the Pattaya City Police Station, reporting that they’ve been experiencing sleepless nights due to the continuous roaring of a two-year-old lioness kept at a nearby residence. The residents claimed they were unable to contact anyone at the property to address their concerns.
Upon investigation, police identified the property as the same house that made headlines last year when a foreigner was spotted driving around Pattaya in an open-top Bentley limousine with a lioness in the passenger seat while the owner was away.
During the February 8 inspection, authorities met with the owner, Mr. Nadar, a 54-year-old Russian national, who presented valid documentation proving legal ownership and permits for keeping the lion. Mr. Nadar claimed that the lion’s frequent roaring was triggered by stress from locals throwing objects into his property.
Police officials issued a warning to Mr. Nadar, instructing him to better control the noise levels and implement additional measures to prevent future disturbances to the community. The case has highlighted ongoing tensions between exotic pet ownership and residential peace in the tourist city.
This property had previously been inspected by both police and national park officials last year following public concern over the lion’s presence in the residential area.
