KAMPHAENG PHET — Hundreds of people have been scouring bushes, trees, rice fields and other locations across a district in Kamphaeng Phet in a race to find hidden coupons for free Thai BBQ meals worth 500 baht each.
The promotion by Leng Moo Krata Sai Ngam restaurant has gone viral, with a video of the coupon hunt racking up more than 2.5 million views overnight.
The restaurant launched the giveaway to thank customers and celebrate its 20th anniversary. It plans to hide and distribute 300 coupons worth 500 baht each, with a total value of more than 150,000 baht.
At least five to 10 coupons are being hidden each day at locations around Sai Ngam district and nearby areas. Anyone who finds a coupon can redeem it for a large set of Thai BBQ, either to eat at the restaurant or take home.
The activity has attracted people of all ages, from children to adults, who have been searching day and night. Some participants have reportedly taken time off work to join the hunt, while others have struck lucky multiple times.
Participants follow clues posted on the restaurant’s social media page and use observation skills to track down the hidden coupons. Even heavy rain has failed to stop some of the hunters.
Veerapol Watthanaphan, 21, a Sai Ngam resident who joined the activity, said he had already found three coupons since the promotion began.
“I will keep joining until the end. I follow the restaurant’s page to see where the next clue leads and rely mainly on careful observation. I’m very happy to take part,” he said.
Restaurant owner Samart Kletjeen, 39, said he had been surprised by the overwhelming response.
He initially placed the coupons in relatively easy-to-spot locations, but the activity quickly gained momentum, with participants asking him to hide them in more challenging spots.
He said additional people had also offered to sponsor more coupons, while the restaurant remains committed to its goal of giving away 300 coupons.
The promotion is still ongoing, and the restaurant has invited anyone interested to join the hunt.
