BANGKOK — Jensen Huang, CEO and founder of NVIDIA, made a significant visit to Thailand on December 3-4, 2024, marking a major step forward in the country’s artificial intelligence development plans.
During his visit, Huang met with Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra to discuss AI infrastructure investments and development in Thailand. Huang expressed NVIDIA’s commitment to further catalyzing and strengthening AI development in Thailand, particularly in areas such as healthcare and smart agriculture, with the goal of rapidly advancing Thailand’s digital economy.
The visit culminated in several key announcements at a high-profile event held at the Park Hyatt Bangkok, attended by prominent figures including former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra, CP Group’s Dhanin Chearavanont, and GULF’s Sarath Ratanavadi. The centerpiece of the event was SIAM.AI CLOUD’s launch of its NVIDIA H100 Tensor Core GPU cluster, demonstrating Thailand’s commitment to building sovereign AI capabilities.
During a dialogue with SIAM.AI CLOUD CEO Ratanaphon Wongnapachant, Huang highlighted NVIDIA’s existing collaboration with over 50 Thai startups and 40 universities, emphasizing the company’s commitment to fostering AI development in Thailand.
Several strategic partnerships were announced at the event:
- A healthcare initiative with Mahidol University focusing on drug discovery and Thailand-specific medical AI solutions
- An educational collaboration with CMKL University to provide advanced computing infrastructure for AI research
- A partnership with True IDC, under the CP Group, to develop AI infrastructure and GPU-as-a-Service solutions
- A strategic alliance with Gulf Edge at GSA Data Center to provide locally hosted NVIDIA computing resources
SIAM.AI CLOUD, incorporated in January 2024 with a registered capital of 695 million baht, specializes in enterprise-grade GPU cloud services. The company focuses on high-performance computing for AI, VFX rendering, and large-scale data processing, utilizing NVIDIA Slurm and Kubernetes for efficient resource management.
Raymond Teh, NVIDIA’s Senior Vice President for Asia Pacific, praised Thailand’s commitment to AI innovation, noting that SIAM.AI CLOUD’s infrastructure deployment positions Thailand as a rising leader in Southeast Asia’s AI landscape.
This development marks a significant step in Thailand’s journey toward becoming a regional AI hub, with a focus on maintaining data sovereignty while fostering local innovation and technological advancement.
